I spotted her right away at the table across from mine. She was sitting alone like me, but it was clear she was waiting for someone. As the minutes ticked by, I noticed her expression shift—from eager anticipation to a look of disappointment that deepened with each passing moment. She kept checking her phone and glancing out the window. No doubt about it, she'd been ghosted on a blind date.
Before I realized it, I was on my feet, heading toward her table. She looked up at me with those hopeful eyes and asked, "Are you Josh?" Without even thinking, I said, "Yes." What followed were a couple of hours that were nothing short of incredible. She was amazing, and we just hit it off right away.
But as great as it was, the lie started to weigh on me. I was falling for her, and it felt like what we had was something special. I wasn't ready to lose that. By the time our second date rolled around, I had made up my mind to come clean.
