The Unusual Parents of 'Fitness Queen' Simone Biles 😞
Abandoned by her drug-addicted biological mother as a child, American gymnastics superstar Simone Biles was adopted by her grandfather and his second wife, so she calls them her parents.

Simone Biles and her three siblings were placed in foster care at the age of three by her mother, Shanon, who was addicted to drugs and alcohol and was in and out of prison. Her father, Kelvin Clemons, was also addicted and was completely absent from the athlete's life. In several interviews, she has described her childhood of hunger, the fear of living with her mother, and the joy of her grandfather's visits.
At the age of 6, the American athlete and her younger sister were adopted by her grandfather and moved to Texas to live with him. Simone Biles' older siblings were raised by her grandfather's sister in Ohio. During her appearance on the TV show Dancing with the Stars in 2017, Simone Biles recalled the moment her grandfather and step-grandmother told her and her sister that they could call them mom and dad if they wanted to. And since then, she has called Ronald and Nellie mom and dad.

The 1997-born athlete has shared many times that if it weren't for her adoptive parents, she wouldn't have achieved the success she has today. Simone Biles has said many times that there are no words to describe the gratitude she has received from both of them. She said that being adopted by her grandparents was a turning point in her life, opening up a new, bright life, completely different from the dark years before.

Soon after adopting Simone Biles and her sister, Ronald and Nellie enrolled the Biles sisters in gymnastics. "Simone never missed a day of practice. Even when she was sick, I asked her to stay home, but she said no and went to practice anyway," Nellie once shared with People . "They supported us in every way possible. They made sure we had everything we needed to be the best we could be," the gymnastics superstar confided. Simone Biles' sister was also a gymnast.
Simone Biles’ career took off when her parents opened a gym in Texas in 2014, where she trained for the Tokyo Olympics. Ronald and Nellie’s gym was a popular place for black kids who loved to exercise. Simone Biles says her parents were great role models for how to treat others. When she returned home from the Tokyo Olympics with a troubled mind, Simone Biles found peace and balance in her parents’ arms.

Ronald Biles, now in his 70s, and his second wife, Nellie, met in San Antonio while he was serving in the Air Force. He was a single father and Nellie was in college. They married in 1977 and have two sons.

Although Ronald and Nellie are close to Simone Biles, they are also very strict. The American athlete said she was hesitant and scared when bringing her fiancé, Jonathan Owens, to meet her parents. However, the rugby player quickly won the hearts of his future parents-in-law. Neille helped Simone Biles prepare for her wedding in 2023.

Ten predictions for the rest of the 2024 WNBA season...
Caitlin Clark will win a Rookie of Year race that goes to the wire with Angel Reese
Clark and the Chicago Sky's Reese already have had exceptional first seasons and done historical things for rookies. Reese's streak of 15 double-doubles is the longest by any WNBA player, not just a rookie. Clark, meanwhile, has recorded the first triple-double by a rookie. Each has helped position her team for a playoff spot.

When it comes to the Rookie of the Year race, though, it is challenging to compare them. Statistically, they play entirely different positions: Clark is a point guard, and Reese is a power forward. Clark has the responsibility of initiating offense, which will weigh more heavily with some voters. That said, guards -- particularly point guards -- traditionally have been undervalued for WNBA individual awards (see: Sue Bird). Others will point to Reese's consistent production despite all the physical play in the paint. This is likely to be a race to the finish. For me, the edge right now goes to Clark, but both have made good cases and will continue to do so.

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark hit Yankee Stadium as part of her Olympic break for the Bombers’ doubleheader against the Rangers, getting a tour of the grounds before the game, while also meeting some players.
She, along with boyfriend Connor McCaffery, were pictured on the grass in foul territory during batting practice as the Yankees prepared for the twin bill.
Clark was also seen in a training room with Yankees superstar Aaron Judge.
“[Anthony] Rizzo was amazing. He gave us a whole tour of the clubhouse,” Clark said while being interviewed during the game on WFAN. “Meeting all of them, they’re just so down to earth. They understand as another professional athlete that days get long. It’s fun to interact with other athletes.”

At the age of 3, Simone and her infant sister were placed in foster care when their biological mother, Sharon, was unable to take care of them due to her drug and alcohol addiction. Simone opened up about her upbringing and how the experience affected her and Adria in her Facebook Watch series, Simone vs. Herself.
“I don’t remember a lot about foster care, but I definitely knew that we had been taken from our biological mom and then you just think you’re going to go back to her,” she said in an episode titled “Who Am I?”
The two-time Olympian noted that she and Adria were “very fortunate” to not get split up while in foster care. They spent three years in the foster care system before their grandparents officially adopted them. Today, Simone refers to Ronald and Nellie as her parents.
Simone and Adria’s two other siblings, Tevin and Ashley, were adopted by Ronald's sister and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.

Fever upend 1st-place Lynx in Minnesota as fans show out to cheer on Caitlin Clark
Fans showed up in Minnesota in droves on Sunday decked out in Caitlin Clark gear to support the Indiana Fever.
They were treated to a Fever upset of the first-place Minnesota Lynx anchored by a big performance from Aliyah Boston. The Fever rallied from a 60-53 deficit to outscore the Lynx by 14 points in the fourth quarter in an 81-74 win.
The win was the eighth in 12 games for the Fever, who have bounced back from a 3-10 start to an 11-14 record to work their way into the playoff mix. The Lynx, meanwhile fell to 16-8, a half-game behind the resurgent Las Vegas Aces for first place in the Western Conference.
It wasn't necessarily a pro-Fever crowd, but there were plenty of fans at the sold-out Target Center supporting the Fever — so much so that Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve was asked about the anticipated influx of Fever fans pregame.
Here's what she had to say when asked about expected cheers for the road team:
"I don't give two s***s," Reeve said. "Not even one s***."
Those predictions played out pregame as Clark made her way around the crowd to sign autographs for fans sporting Fever gear and Clark jerseys.
The support for Indiana was audible as soon as Clark secured the ball on the opening tip. The Fever then opened a 20-19 first-quarter lead before the game went into halftime tied at 38.
Minnesota then took control in the third quarter as Clark struggled from the field. Clark had seven points through three quarters as the Lynx opened a 60-53 lead before the final stanza.
But the fourth quarter belonged to the Fever, who outscored the Lynx 28-14 in the final 10 minutes. Clark opened the fourth with a 3-pointer, then gave the Fever a 67-65 lead with a driving layup with under seven minutes remaining.
The Fever took the lead for good at 73-71 on a Boston layup off a Clark assist with 2:54 remaining.
When Clark was fouled in the final seconds with the Indiana win in hand, Fever fans made themselves heard.
Boston led the Indiana effort with 17 points, 16 rebounds, two assists and four blocks. Kelsey Mitchell paced the Fever in scoring with 21 points. Clark bounced back from a slow start with 10 points in the fourth for 17 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.
When she was done, Clark tossed her shoes to a fan in the stands.
The Clark effect has been felt throughout the WNBA season in the stands. It's going to only amplify as long as the Fever continue to turn their season around.

Simone Biles has a wedding ring fit for a gold medalist.
After dating for two years, the Olympic gymnast got engaged to NFL athlete Jonathan Owens on Valentine’s Day in 2022. Owens popped the question to Biles with an oval-shaped sparkler designed by Houston-based jeweler ZoFrost.
In April 2023, the pair tied the knot for the first time in a courthouse ceremony. The low-key affair was a necessary legal step before they hosted a larger destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on May 6, 2023. For their second nuptials, Biles and Owens exchanged matching diamond wedding bands. The lavish celebration also included custom sneakers, a live firework show and a water drum performance.
Speaking with Vanity Fair in January 2024, Biles opened up about how winning several gold medals paled in comparison to tying the knot with Owens.
“I’ve never had so much fun in my life. I was 19 when I won my first Olympics, and I was like, 'How am I supposed to top this?' My wedding topped it,” she said. "It was the greatest feeling ever."
