Honorees discussed the importance of driving change and meaningful journalism. We were inspired and learned so much during the Flow {Reading} Space event in NYC with Dr. Karen Tang and Flow Advisor Alysia Reiner! Their conversation celebrating Dr. Tang's new book, 'It’s Not Hysteria,' addressed the extensive landscape of women's reproductive health and delve into the wide array of issues that Dr. Tang explores within its pages.

We had an amazing time at Worth’s 2024 Groundbreaking Women Summit. It was inspiring to be in a room full of industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers shaping the future of business and leadership for women across all industries. Galina Espinoza, Editor in Chief of Flow Space had the honor of moderating a conversation about menopause and innovations improving women’s health with experts Jill Angelo, Founder & CEO, Gennev and Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, Author and Executive Director of Birnbaum Women's Leadership Center at NYU School of Law.

Some of the key takeaways from that conversation were ♀ 👏 :
-The healthcare system greatly lacks in addressing menopause effectively. Despite recent advancements such as increased funding for menopause research and the introduction of corporate menopause benefits, medical schools continue to offer minimal to no training on menopause.
-Menopause is a bipartisan issue. As of December 2023, three pieces of legislation concerning menopause have been introduced in Congress, all receiving bipartisan support, making it the rare issue people are willing to come together and take action on.
-We all can play a role in advancing menopause awareness and healthcare. Actions you can take include investing in fintech, contacting your senators and sharing your personal experiences. By actively advocating for menopause, we can help drive progress ensuring women have better access to the healthcare they deserve.

SHE Media CEO Samantha Skey had the honor of moderating HealthyWomen’s annual event in Washington, DC last week alongside esteemed panelists, Nieca Goldberg, Holly Lofton, Rosemary Morgan, and Ridhi Tariyal,who shared their valuable insights about women’s health. Thank you for inviting SHE Media to be part of such a powerful and inspiring conversation.💖

Here were some of the eye opening takeaways from the evening that show us why we must continue to advocate for change in women’s healthcare:

- The health system has been built for cisgender white men. And even though science tells us women and men are biologically different, medicine largely views us as the same.
- Women's pain is often not believed, equated with hysterics or mental health, or women are sometimes just thought to be able to handle more pain. And while 70% of the people who are affected by chronic pain are women, some of the studies on chronic pain are done on adult human men and mice.
- Black women are 2X as likely to have strokes and are much less likely to survive them compared to white women and they are also more likely to receive the wrong treatment for breast cancer [and] to be diagnosed at more advanced stages.
- Cardiovascular disease is more commonly deadly in both Black and Hispanic women.
We must demand the inclusion of women and minority groups in science and research and to understand and address how they are differentially affected. 👏
