New York Muslim Action Network Condemns False Accusations Against Congressman Jamaal Bowman

New York, February 14, 2024 – The New York Muslim Action Network (NYMAN) strongly condemns the baseless and inflammatory statements made by Westchester County Executive George Latimer during a Black History Month Celebration Event on February 10th, 2024. Mr. Latimer accused Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) of accepting money from Hamas, a claim that is entirely unfounded.

The accusation arose in response to a question posed by a constituent about Mr. Latimer's association with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). It is crucial to note that AIPAC has a documented history of supporting candidates with questionable track records on matters of racism and bigotry across the nation.

NY District 16 and the Muslim community, along with all constituents, deserve representatives who uphold values of inclusivity and reject any form of discrimination. It is inappropriate for candidates to be funded by organizations associated with racism and Islamophobia while representing the people in the House of Representatives.

We call upon Mr. George Latimer to publicly and unequivocally apologize to Congressman Jamaal Bowman and the community for his baseless accusations. NYMAN emphasizes the need for responsible and respectful discourse, especially during events that celebrate the diversity of our nation.

In the spirit of fostering unity and understanding, we urge Mr. Latimer to rectify the situation promptly. The community deserves leaders who prioritize truth and unity over divisive and unfounded allegations.
