There is so much grief in the world that is often unaddressed. This week on Change It Up we are going to address it...directly. Grief isn't just something we experience after death. Grief is the natural response to any kind of loss. That could be a job loss, health loss, or a relationship breakup, any kind of significant loss will elicit grief. In this episode we will do a kind of Master Class on Grief, including what it is, living through it, and finding a way back to your New Normal.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by 16-year-old Dylan Stolba, a student who entered a writing contest sponsored by Rotary International and won 3rd place for her essay on Teenage Depression and Anxiety entitled, The Overdue Conversation. We are talking about teenage depression and anxiety, and the damaging effects of societal stigma and silence surrounding mental health issues.

We explore the various factors that contribute to teenage depression, including loss, social isolation, trauma, and a feeling of powerlessness, and how these experiences can have profound impacts on a teen’s mental health. Dylan adds an essential firsthand perspective to the discussion, as she shares her experiences and observations about teenage anxiety, depression, and grief from her award-winning essay, providing a more nuanced understanding of the struggles faced by her and her peers.

Dylan shines a light on the need for more open and honest conversations about teen anxiety and depression, arguing that society’s tendency to avoid frank discussions about such issues further exacerbates these feelings of isolation and stigma. We discuss the importance of understanding the symptoms of anxiety and depression, the necessity of reaching out for help when required, and various methods to help teens combat depression and anxiety.

Dylan’s candid narration serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health issues in teenagers. Despite her own struggles, she emphasizes that help and positive change are possible.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by my dear friend, Amy Scruggs, who is a renowned figure in the country music industry with a rich experience in sales, coaching, and media management. We are talking about the unique challenges, experiences, and grief that one struggles with as a single parent.

Amy opens up about her personal journey of single parenthood, revealing the struggles she endured, the strength she drew upon, and the life lessons learned along the way. At the age of 18, Amy found herself pregnant and alone. Stepping into parenthood at such a young age set her on a path that required her to grow up quickly, balance her own self-discovery with the responsibility of caring for another human being, and eventually juggle a demanding career while raising four children.

Her personal journey mirrors the experience of many women who have also navigated the tumultuous path of single parenthood. Amy recounts the grief women endure in troubled relationships or marriages, how dreams once cherished can fizzle out over time, and how this grief is compounded when children are involved as they become the primary concern in the decision-making process.

We discuss the importance of acknowledging and dealing with long-term grief for personal growth, creating a meaningful life out of tough circumstances, and the power of reinvention and self-forgiveness. Amy advocates for the need to break old parenting patterns that might not serve the parent-child relationship, encouraging parents to show their flaws and own up to their mistakes, learn to forgive themselves for their imperfections, and find joy in their journey.

In this episode of Change it Up Radio, I am joined by Art Giser, who is a gifted healer, intuitive, NLP trainer, life coach, and corporate consultant in leadership and teamwork, to discuss techniques to help us better understand and cope with our emotions and deal with grief.

Art has over 39 years of experience in and study of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Science, Intuition Development, Spiritual Principles, and Energetic and Spiritual Healing, and is the creator of Energetic NLP, which is an energy-based method of working with loss and grief that provides rapid, easy, and powerful ways for people to transform their lives, open more of their full potential, and unleash their miraculous abilities.

Art and I delve into the concept of grief as an energy, and he shares how Energetic NLP can help individuals process their grief in order to find growth and healing on the other side. He explains that grief can be rooted in unhealed losses, which can sometimes manifest as addictions or avoidance mechanisms, and talks about how absorbing other people’s energies can significantly impact our own emotional well-being.

Art shares some simple techniques for releasing other people’s emotional energy, and explains that by releasing this energy, we can better cope with our authentic grief and ultimately grow and thrive through it. We discuss the importance of recognizing that there is no right way to feel or experience grief, and encourage everyone to be kind to themselves and remember that it’s okay to feel a wide range of emotions during difficult times.

Art also talks about his journey toward discovering his passion and purpose in life, touching on the transformative moment when he discovered NLP and how it completely changed his life. His story of growth and discovery is a prime example of the power of finding one’s true calling and the profound impact it can have on an individual’s personal and professional fulfillment.
