The Quarter Rat

The Quarter Rat The French Quarter's only newspaper. Covering life in the Vieux Carre since 2009.

The Quarter Rat started out in 2009 as a single sheet fanzine covering the insane and hectic life of living and working in The French Quarter of New Orleans, LA. Tales of working on the notorious Bourbon Street and dealing with the wild tourism trade. Today it's a news site focused on the daily happenings in this tiny 300 year old section of America. TheQuarterRat.com is for the locals who want to

keep up on what is happening in the Vieux Carre, and for visitors to get an idea of day to day life in this crazy tourist destination. We exist to document everything and give voice to those who live, work and play in the French Quarter.

Some sad news for the neighborhood, will be closing its shop at 805 Royal street this Sunday. They will be moving on to bigger and better things with their online sales, but we are sad to see this French Quarter Gem go! Bourbon French Parfums first opened their doors in 1843 and has continuously been open as a Perfumery since then. That’s over 170 years! So, please give them some love this weekend and stop by their shop!

French Market Corporation Open House: Elysian Fields Parking Lot Development

When: March 26, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Where: George & Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, 1225 N. Rampart St.

The French Market Corporation, which controls the two surface parking lots on Elysian Fields at Decatur and Chartres Streets, is considering options for their development and wants your input to refine concepts that will best suit the needs and desires of the community. Should they remain surface lots? Should they be developed as multi-story parking garages? Should they serve the needs of the upcoming riverfront redevelopment at Governor Nicholls and Esplanade Wharves, or should they be reserved for the hospitality industry and residents? What about retail or other commercial development? Now is your chance to share your vision for the two spaces.

This meeting is designed as an open house, so drop in for a few minutes and share your thoughts. No advance knowledge or research is required.
