The need to address affordable housing shortages and higher home prices and rents has prompted plenty of talk during and since the pandemic.

Cody Filipczak — a home builder and developer in Eau Claire, Wisconsin — is translating those words into deeds.

He redeveloped a shuttered assisted living facility into new affordable apartments and has development plans to bring more manufactured homes to a region where real estate costs have roughly doubled.

Still, those are just small bites at a very big and challenging apple.
