SURPRISE DROP TODAY! This is a collaboration studio project we started in 2020 during Covid. A version of it was released then, but not to streaming music services, just to video.

This version of Journey's "Open Arms" features Kevin Chalfant (The Storm) on vocals. Not too many people can take on a song like "Open Arms" and deliver their own interpretation of it and still make it their own! Kevin is a master of that. He is an amazing singer and a good friend.

This track was mixed recently by the incomparable Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studio - Detroit, Michigan. Chuck gives 110% to every project we have done together and this one is no exception. He approached it as if mixing this song during the "Frontiers" era versus the "Escape" era when it came it 1981 and he nailed it. Huge mix!

It features Kevin Chalfant, Greg Armstrong, Paul Diethelm, John Garnache, Todd Sucherman and Chris Hawkey. Yet another great collaboration and it is already making waves! This is a quote from Dennis DeYoung (Styx) after hearing our version..."Great job guys! I love a good waltz. It really is a fantastic ballad. Say hi to Kevin, he can really sing! I wonder how many guys out there can sound like Steve? - Cheers D."

A year or two ago, I had a conversation with a couple mutual friends in the music business who happen to play in the national touring band "Hairball". All three of us LOVED a song off the Paradise Theater STYX album called "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned".

I have been a STYX fan since I started playing music, and this song was always a favorite of mine, albeit not the hit like "Best Of Times" or "Too Much Time On My Hands" was off that album. I liked the horns, the reggae groove, the sentiment of the song, and overall a very DIFFERENT track for the time.

Finally, earlier this year, Kris Vox (vocalist), Brian HBK (bass) and my (Greg Armstrong/keyboards) schedules allowed us to come together on this project, with the addition of Matt Kirkwold on guitars, Philip Lassiter on trumpet, Ben Rodenburg on sax, Kenni Holmen on sax and Todd Sucherman on drums from STYX to record "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned".

After recording it, I actually heard from Dennis DeYoung (STYX) who wrote and sang the original song. He LOVED it and told me hearing this version made his week! It is great to hear accolades from your idols and influences, but more importantly to know they are also good people who took the time out of their day to acknowledge your work.

"Nothing Ever Goes As Planned" and I am testament to that as I am sure many of you are. I wanted to be an architect, went to college for it...and ended up skipping class to practice piano in the performing arts center practice rooms for hours a day. I left college without a degree and majored in "Rock Band 101" at age 19 and never looked back. Now almost 40 years later...I'm still doing it and making a living playing music. Follow your dreams people!

Featuring an ensemble of top-tier musicians, Innovibrations infuses new life into this iconic hit. With Chris Hawkey's soulful vocals, known for his work with Fabulous Armadillos, Rocket Club, and the Chris Hawkey band, harmonizing flawlessly with Chloe Lowery's enchanting voice, of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Yanni fame, the track is elevated to new heights. Backed by the stellar rhythm of Todd Sucherman on drums renowned for his tenure with Styx, and the lush keyboard melodies of Greg Armstrong from Fabulous Armadillos, alongside the dynamic guitar work of Matt Kirkwold of Rocket Club, the arrangement is nothing short of mesmerizing. Adding depth and richness to the track are the strings by Tommy Barbarella, formerly of Prince and the New Power Generation, along with the pulsating bass lines by Brian Hbk of Hairball.

In a recent interview with Greg, I asked him to tell me more about this project and how it came to be, he told me:

"I have always loved this song, and I’m a big fan of vocalist John Waite. I wanted to re-imagine the track into a cover and give it another lease on life, especially for those that might have not heard it in 1978. While producing the song, it never occurred to me before recreating it, that the producers and writers were probably trying to capitalize on the success of Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album, which came out in 1977. It has very similar vocal characteristics and writing, similar to Jim Steinman, who wrote the Bat Out of Hell music."

The excitement mounts as Innovibrations teases their forthcoming instrumental release, "Over The Rubicon," promising a sonic journey that transcends musical boundaries. With plans to unveil fresh material every few months throughout 2024, the band is poised to make waves in the industry.

And that brings me nicely to the single in question here -
"Every Time I Think Of You."

This track, originally penned by Jack Conrad and Ray Kennedy, receives a modern makeover under the expert guidance of producer Greg Armstrong, and still captivates us with its timeless themes of enduring love and unwavering devotion. The heartfelt lyrics, delivered with the same soul-stirring vocals as its origin, evokes a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Against a backdrop of melodic harmonies, the song celebrates the resilience of love amidst life's uncertainties. With each refrain, the promise of everlasting affection resonates, leaving listeners enchanted and yearning for more.
