Hi everyone, good news ahead of this week's Bandcamp Friday! The Skyphone, Lavatone , R.A Sánchez , and Corrado Maria De Santis CDs have finally arrived and are in stock and shipping now! I've got a couple images of each up on the individual album pages on Bandcamp.

I've sent out an email to all in the pre-order backlog today, in hopes to confirm the shipping address for those folks, as it has been a while and I just want to make sure.

I'll also be sending out an email to all Map Series subscribers detailing the final plans for the series, and to get your thoughts on a couple items. Also, the Arrowounds 4CD Book should not be too far off from arriving as well, but I'll keep you posted (Always check the album pages on Bandcamp under the product section for the most up to date info).

Thanks to Headphone Commute who has channelled the prized memory of elephants to consider William Ryan Fritch's 'Polarity' among their best releases of 2023. 'Polarity' was released all the way back in January of 2023, simpler times. Thanks to Mr. Fritch and the support the album received, we managed to raise nearly a thousand dollars for the Healthy Alaska Natives Foundation

Definitely a work I am very proud of, handling the song selection, order, and the final volume adjustments for William's masterful compositions brought me very close to this material.

A Closer Listen chose Arrowounds artwork for 'In the Octopus Pond' as one of the Year's Best Album Covers! Lavatone - 'Lunar Mining and Excavation' is a massive double album. This is heavy, filthy, industrial workplace, It’s the ugly side of Space Music… overworked machinery, duct taped space suits, turds hovering at low-gravity in the porta-johns, pounding, grinding, noise and catharsis. Might sound scary, but I swear it's all sort of hypnotic and oddly calming. Next, R.A Sánchez (aka Black Baptist, Tokyo Bloodworm) brilliant solo debut 'L'Ottava Sfera' is finally here. Drawing inspiration from catholicism, theosophy, funeral doom, experimental jazz and mid-20th century composers such as Krzysztof Pendrecki and Iannis Xenakis, R.A has crafted a pitch-dark and deeply personal narrative based on themes of illness, death and apotheosis. This record is insane in the best way possible. Sánchez and I poured our hearts into this one. Ryan Petersavage did some intense production work and Ian Hawgood did such a brilliant job mastering this through all sorts of gooey old tape machines. The Honeycomb Labyrinth is but one part of an ever maddening story from the mind of Arrowounds. Here is a taste.

As they beheld everything within a gaze, the shrouded priests descended within the Phosphene Silver Abyss and spread their roots throughout The Honeycomb Labyrinth. Carved out by ancient insectoid deities of an unwritten age, and protector of a nourishing fungal realm of visionary splendor. They of vibrational symbiosis spilled forth, thus becoming submerged below the hexagonal prismatic cavities.

In witnessing the great chemical eclipse, purest sound was cinched from existence, only a moment towards animal pause rendering all material bodies incapacitated. All remained silent, until a devouring quake was birthed. Great swaths of continents began shifting and colliding, flesh peeling back from its mantle and sphere. Undulating cults of sinister rhythms descended from the paths of ancient amphibian sorcery. Ground and sulking masses, emblazoned with the spells of a thousand ancestral witches, bathed in night and produced a foul breath to stir fear and poison the blood. Ritual and sacrifice, gods and elders of the sidereal pass, the third born gifted to a covens' empty light. Sour fluid spilled into altars, feeding a fever of dimensional consequence. Participants drank and linked into tunnel veins, hallucinations of the temple vines outswelling into perilous unison. Eyes became cinder and visions cursed the sightless. A scalding purpose became one and known by all, initiations echoing the Procession of Secret Followers, gifting a godless light amongst sigils of prophetic swells

When I start these series, there are certain albums that I know will be immediately popular and some that are my underdogs (that I love to pieces). Though I know it will take some time and understanding from the fans before they start to gain any traction, if ever. So, I'm thrilled that one of my favorite review sites Various Small Flames picked up on this Kaya North (aka The Eagle Stone Collective) album, 'Myths.' It was one of my precious, easily misunderstood babies from the get go. Reviewers that go out on a limb for something different are a rare and wondrous beast in the land music journalism.

Claire Deak's debut solo album 'Sotto Voce' is officially out October 6th, 2023 (via Lost Tribe Sound). This album began as an exploration of the music and worlds of two women composers from the early baroque era, Francesca Caccini (1587-c.1645) and Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677). Deak initially set out to experiment with the surviving historic traces left behind by these two women (music notation, instrumentation, writing by or about them and their contexts during their lived time, as well as more recent interpretations and anything in between).

Up until recently, composer and multi-instrumentalist Claire Deak dedicated most of her music-making to others: for film, television and theatre productions, as well as for bandmates and songwriters in need of colourful arrangements. In 2020 Claire released her acclaimed collaborative album with Tony Dupé (saddleback), 'the old capital' through US label Lost Tribe Sound and has since contributed to various celebrated compilations and remix releases as a solo artist.

As for the Sale, this pricing does not reflect how much this music means to us, or what it is truly worth, nor how much we paid to have it produced by top-quality engineers, nor how many hours of design, promotion, and sweat and tears went into each album.

I know many of us are collectively struggling and have been for a while as the gears of a capitalist based society continue to grind us up into sausage, served to a select few at the top. Art and music feel like a luxury, though it is also one of the only things that has pulled me through the darkest moments of my life.

I know what it feels like to want to support music (even digitally), showing a small token of my appreciation for it, and yet coming up with $7, or more like $10 or $12 these days for a digital release, is way outside many of our budgets. So I often listen a couple times and try to forget about how much I love it, and how I wish I could support it. I know most artists and musicians struggle to pay bills, let alone, buy music. The new album, ‘Myths’ was born from conversations between Caleb and LTS. Curiosity for what a Kaya North project might sound like if it was almost purely based around those intense, focused percussions. Over the last few years, minimal industrial and other outsider approaches to ritual and rhythmic drone have crept their way into our catalog with artists like Several Wives, Arrowounds, and Kaya North’s ‘Myths’ feeds our ever increasing appetite for this style of music.

Most likely a portion of listeners who'll see the words dark ambient or ritual will write this music off before ever listening. Perhaps sold on programming that only lighter, upbeat, or more positive music will keep their psyche balanced and lead to the promised land. But we beg a challenge to this way of thinking, as our experience points to an equal amount of creation, self-discovery, and other antithetical yet healthy modes of being can come from these left-handed forms of music.

‘Myths’ kicks off our series Maps to Where the Poison Grows for good reason. A ritual to clear the air, straighten the spine, and get our minds right. ‘Myths’ is a deeply personal album for us. It’s extremely inline with our current day to day listening preferences, essentially our guts on a platter.
