It’s been a minute since our last posting. We have been traveling for a couple weeks from the Keys to IN, also been spending a lot of time on the “Grand Design major issues page”.
We stopped at Twin creeks RV resort and Marina visiting friends who are teaveling from FL to SD. Then we went to Ohio for the eclipse and stayed at a reserve training base for a few days. We left there to go to Elkhart campground to prep our rv for drop off to Grand Design service for frame repairs. (4-6 weeks they say) So we finally settled in for a boring month or so in a hotel waiting. Although I did do a factory tour of Alliance RV and have a 2 1/2 training at Lippert. If you’re considering an rv consider the Alliance. I was very impressed with their builds. We also have some good friends staying here as well doing the same thing with their rig, Pete & Lisa West. It is always great to go to different places and have friends there. You don’t get that type of diversity of friends when you never leave where you were born and raised. Between 12 yrs in the military and the 2 years of full time rv’ing we have met a crap load of people. Gotta include all our friends and family where we live as well. Life is great even though at times it seems like it is kicking your teeth in.

Our last sunset in the Keys. Sad to say but today we bid farewell to the Keys and on our trek back to the mothership in IN. We got to short stays, one in TN to visit friends and one in OH to see the Eclipse. So some fun still ahead.

NOT SO GOOD UNWANTED ADVICE
People can have great intentions but be completely wrong. The other day I was looking uder my slide checking things out. My site neighbor comes over to me and tells me what to use on my schwintek slides. He said to use a dry lithium grease on the tracks. I was polite and said “thanks, appreciate that”. BUT he couldn’t be more wrong on that advice. He gave out his advice with such confidence that if you were not well versed with maintaining your rig you would believe him. Later I look at his rig and see on his older class A that he had one slide in the rear that came out maybe 2’, and of course his track was black, you can barely make out that it should be a silvery steel. Schwintek slide tracks are virtually maint free, just check for debris and damage. L**e just attracks dust and dirt and allows it to stick. Funny, he even said that it sticks on there like glue.
Be aware of polite and so called friendly advice.

A short stay here at NAS Sigsbee in Key West. Unbelievable sunsets, and I’m sure the sunrises are amazing but I wouldn’t know. Cute little tiki bar right on the water with gorgeous sunsets. Cutting our stay short though because we are boondocking and have to run the generator from 0730 to 10:30pm trying to keep it cool in the rv. It’s been almost 90 everyday with the dew point in mid 70’s, it’s been moist. Propane is $5.99 a gallon so bout $40 a tank which we use 1+ a day. We also can’t run the generator at night so sleeping has been miserable. So we are heading WAY way up to Sunshine Key RV resort about 30 miles north. Haha our winter isn’t over yet.

Sunset on one side of the base where we were eating dinner at the chow hall. Then on our way back home we saw the moon rising over the flight line on the other side. Crazy contrast within 45 minutes.

Big day Tuesday, 8+ hours of walking around Epcot. I will admit this park was sooo clean and there were so many bathrooms, clean bathrooms. It was crowded but not to crowded with the exception of popular rides where there was 70-90 minute waits to get on a ride. If you never been and LOVE to people watch, like me, you gotta go. Day pass $164 +tax but if you are military research Shades of Green. We paid $142 and that included tax. Not a huge savings but better than full price.

Guess I have been lazy and busy and moving around a bunch so have not posted a lot. So here are bunch of photos of where we’ve been and what we’ve done. We spent time at Thousand Trails (TT) Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte, this was a pretty nice place. They mix seasonals and transients together and it was well maintained. We stayed there mostly to visit family so didn’t spend much time in the park. Then off to Sunshine Key in Keys for 2 weeks. Beautiful location and great resort, would highly recomend. Did the usual drink, eat and sight see in the lower keys, we will be back at the beginning of March. Then a stop at TT Peace River, nice enough, middle of no where and the park was avg. Should be PIECE river because thats what you will end up as if you go in the water, pieces, because of the crap ton of alligators. Now we are at TT Orlando, great location, super park and lots to do. Huge park with over 1000 sites, but very well managed.

OUCH!! Poor guy crushed his 2024 GMC dually by dropping his 5th wheel on the back. He was in a rush to move from a no dump site to full hook ups at a Thousand Trails and forgot the pin and to do a test pull. Hit a few dippeddy doo’s and OFF the hitch it goes, KABAM!
Gotta take your time and check your work, twice if need be. Everything dented on both sides. It sucks that this happened to them they are such a nice couple, hate to see bad things happen to nice people. Oh ya, the RV, minimal damage. It’s amazing how these heavy duty trucks crinkle like tinfoil but the fiberglass surprisingly takes a beating.

Want give a big shout out to Lorie Belle Tanner owner/operator of FreckledGinger Custom Designs on FB and FreckledGinger Goes web site. Having this decal on our door is another layer of peace of mind knowing that if there was an issue with our rig, and or pups, on lookers will have a number to call us. Thanks again

So did a big BIG washing of the shower/bathroom. Can’t believe you really need to remove the doors to get them thoroughly clean. Everyday we squeegee the doors, I even removed them a year or so ago and reversed the overlap of each door panel so that they overlap properly and still the soap scum is unbelievable.

So this is the process for a sparkling doors, well for at least one day;
1. Removed doors totally so they can be cleaned separately.
2. Spray with Magic cleaner, it does a great job on soap scum.
Use a scrubby and then wipe with paper towels.
3. Clean with glass cleaner. WHY you might ask, this stuff
supposedly will Repel water for seven days. POPPY C**K!
well it might, but it leaves a nasty smear that wont wipe off, so I
Clean it off.
4. Sometimes it takes two cleanings to remove smudges.
5. Repeat for all pieces and don’t forget to do both sides.
6. Put it all back together and admire your work.

This took about 3 hours, but it included the whole cleaning of the bathroom. Pretty satisfied, the bathroomlooks pretty solid for being used everyday for almost 2 years.

We have kicked off our winter travels in SUNNY, cloudy, windy and rainy FLORIDA. You notice nothing said about cold or snow, nope! Our first 1K trails stay is at Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte. The “resort” is nice, pretty much the same as some others. One nice thing is that they mix the 1K trails members in with everybody, but once again tons of seasonal. This place has the usual pool, pickleball, basketball and such, and it all seems well maintained. To be honest with you we have not done anything on this campground. Hahaha We are here mostly to visit family for a few days in Venice. We hung with the cousins and BBQ’ed, walked the board walk, ate, then ate some more had an ice cream then went out to dinner, it was all delish. Can’t remember all the places we went but here is a few pics. Quick note on some of the pics, Mrs. DR. Dolittle talking to her new bird friend and the birds look. HAHA My new lap dog Henry and the cutest little dogs Bella and Lilly.

Officially arrived in Florida. We stopped at a Harvest Host called Allegiance RV a small dealership and repair shop. Nothing fancy, just park and hang out. We are fenced in and gates locked, so we are super secure so we can sleep soundly. Tomorrow is our first stay of several for the next 3 months. Next week we will be in the keys, so excited.

After being in NH for a few weeks and heading south, where it is supposed to be to be warmer, we had our hose freeze in SC over night, who would have thunk. No biggie, got it all working.

New Years eve festivities over and visiting done, now back on the road. First and foemost we want to thank our very good friends for a wonderful weekend, they are the hostess with the mostess. (Man I’m becoming a softee, haha). Stopped early today in SC because I forgot to fill the fresh water tank for our 3 days of traveling, ugh. So did a thorough cleaning of the black tank, vacuumed truck and cleaned it out a bit, oh ya, and filled the fresh water tank.
The campground we stopped at is new and still under development in Seller SC called Midpoint I95 campground because it is mid way between FL and DC. Very basic with dirt and gravel, again still under construction. There is only about 25 sites but easily accessible. The coolest thing about this place is that it is DARK. No highway noise, no real traffic, about 1 vehicle about every 30-45 min. Really cool. So if you’re heading up or down the 95 it is a nice place to stay over night.

With Christmas in the past we are on the road again. We left NH on Wednesday and meandering our way to FL. We have a stop in NC for the New Year and then head to Harbor Lakes in Port Charlotte. We will spend 4 days there and will visit our cousin that lives in Venice.

We did two Cracker Barrels the first two stops, tonight we are at a Harvest Host called Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum in Colonial Heights VA. Really cool vehicles there, everything from 1930’s trucks and cars to 2008 Shelby GT500, 2 of them.
