Nashua Firefighter That Battled Occupational Cancer Passes Away
It is with deep sadness that Nashua Fire Rescue announce the line of duty death of retired Lieutenant Jessica Wyman.
Lieutenant Wyman battled occupational cancer with the courage and inspiration that was synonymous with her widespread impact on the fire service.
Lieutenant Wyman dedicated 26-years to the New Hampshire fire service including 16- years with Nashua Fire Rescue starting on May 14, 2001 through her retirement on September 30, 2017.
Prior to joining Nashua Fire Rescue, Jess worked for Merrimack Fire Rescue as a Firefighter/Paramedic for nearly 10-years.
In addition to her career in the fire service, Jess had a lengthy career as a registered nurse working for Southern New Hampshire Health in the Emergency Department. In her retirement, Jess flourished in her role as the Executive Director of Inpatient and Critical Care Services.
One of the most cherished impacts of Jess’s life was her role as Director of Camp Fully Involved, a week-long camp hosted at the New Hampshire Fire Academy. The camp’s mission was to provide young women a safe, dynamic, interactive and physically challenging environment to gain strength and knowledge while building confidence and leadership skills.
The slogan of Camp Fully Involved is a testament to how Jess lived her life while helping others: “Tell me and I forget; Show me and I remember; Involve me and I understand...”
Nashua Fire Rescue along with Merrimack Fire Rescue, Nashua Firefighters Union IAFF Local 789, Merrimack Professional Firefighters IAFF 2904, and the staff at Southern New Hampshire Health express our sincere condolences to Jess’s mother, Jan White and her husband Chris, retired Fire Investigator at the Office of the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal.
At Jess’s request, a Celebration of Life is being planned by her family and friends. Details of the Celebration of Life will be released as soon as they are finalized.
