The Ramapo College music program has a distinctly contemporary orientation, encouraging students to create, explore, and study music with a 21st century perspective. Music majors begin with a progressive foundation in musicianship, integrating theory with aural skills, composition and analysis of musical styles from Bach to Rock. Discovering music as both a highly individual and culturally formed

expression, students develop an interdisciplinary view of music that crosses boundaries in our increasingly global digital world. Ramapo music majors select from four concentrations:

Music Education
The Music Education concentration prepares students for careers teaching music. The progressive curriculum balances traditional and contemporary music studies with a global perspective, diverse hands-on experiences, creative teaching projects, and individualized instruction. Music Industry
The Music Industry concentration focuses on the many facets of the creative and professional worlds in the rapidly changing international music business. Music Performance
Music Performance is particularly experiential, developing musical skills and fostering individual expression in diverse styles and also provides a foundation for students who might pursue K-12 music teaching. Music Production
Music Production emphasizes original composition, recording, sound synthesis and multi-media, including training in major music software programs such as Pro Tools, Logic, and Ableton Live in our state-of-the-art Music Lab. Music Studies
Music Studies centers on the more analytical and interpretive disciplines, writing about music, and the preparation for graduate school.

Next Monday, 5/13, we will have our final concert of the year, the Student Group recitals! We will be starting the show in the York room at 7:00pm!

A week from today (Tuesday) the Ramapo Concert Band will be having their final performance of the semester. They will be in the H-Wing auditorium starting at 7:30 pm.

A week from today, our Musical Theatre Workshop class will hosting their semester showcase, Bernstein on Broadway! It is May 6th in the Adler Theatre. Show starts at 8:00!

This Sunday, the Ramapo Chorale and CantaNOVA are having their Spring Concert at the First Congregational Church in Park Ridge NJ. The show starts at 4:00 and student tickets are free. Hope to see you there!

***Cuban percussion workshops with Rafael Monteagudo, Mondays, Feb 5 and 12***

This Monday and next will be workshops with Cuban percussionist Rafael Monteagudo, during the weekly meetings/rehearsals of the Brazilian Latin Percussion Ensemble. Mondays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in H-Wing Auditorium (H-129). In the ensemble, students learn wide-ranging percussion instruments and polyrhythmic Afro-Latin grooves, under the direction of Amarildo Costa. They develop musical skills at their own speed while jamming with the group. Come and try it out!
