Happy big 1-0-0 to rock 'n' roll President Jimmy Carter! Did you know Capricorn Records helped propel the Georgia native to the presidency?
It's true. Carter was losing money and in danger of not being able to continue his campaign for president when he went to his friend, Capricorn Records co-founder Phil Walden, for help. That resulted in fundraising concerts with Capricorn artists including the Allman Brothers Band, Wet Willie and the Marshall Tucker Band. Capricorn's influence helped Carter capture a younger crowd and raise more money.
The impact was so great that the Marshall Tucker Band even played at Carter's 1977 inauguration.

On this day 54 years ago, the Allman Brothers Band released its second studio album, "Idlewild South." Tom Dowd produced the album, which was recorded at Capricorn Sound Studios, as well as studios in Miami and New York, due to the band's relentless touring schedule.
The Brothers would often test out songs on the road. "They would record maybe five songs. Then they might say, 'I don't think that song was good enough,' or I don't think that song was ready to record,'" Dowd said in "Skydog: The Duane Allman Story," authored by Randy Poe.

Come see what's behind this door when you take a behind-the-scenes studio tour — offered only at 10 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Happy birthday to the late King of Soul Otis Redding! A talented singer and songwriter known for his soulful vocal stylings, Redding also was a founder and partner of RedWal Music, a booking and management company.
Redding and RedWal co-founders Phil and Alan Walden purchased what would become the Capricorn complex with the intention of building a studio. Though Redding didn't live to see Capricorn's success, we are indebted to him and his vision.

We've got a movie to add to your watch list. "Triangle Park," directed by Allen Farst with music by Chuck Leavell, is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting Sept. 5. The film is about the Dayton Triangles playing in the first NFL game on Oct. 3, 1920, in Triangle Park. The score was recorded and mixed at Capricorn Sound Studios. We love the sound we get out of larger ensemble recordings in Studio B 🖤

Happy birthday to the late Chank Middleton! Back in 1969, Chank worked shining shoes in a barbershop next door to the recording studio. Allman Brothers Band members would often retreat to the air-conditioned shop to escape the heat of the studio, and Chank became a longtime friend and confidant. View from the studio: Sally Jaye records a new solo album, produced by Brent Cobb and engineered by Rob Evans. Her powerhouse band included Leroy Wilson, Brian Wright, Miles Landrum, Charles Lee Gilbert and Rob Sumowski.
We recently welcomed Tony Tyler to the studio, where his band recorded its debut album. “In the last seven, eight years, the Macon scene has really come back in full force, I’m just trying to be part of it,” Tony told The Macon Melody. You can catch the Tony Tyler Band at Grant's Lounge on Aug. 9.
Musician Tony Tyler returns with his band to Capricorn Studios, where his father would take him as a kid.

You can join the dozens of musicians who have recorded at the restored Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, Georgia, where we offer two primary recording studios.
Studio A, the original studio that produced some of Capricorn Records’ biggest hits, has been well-preserved to maintain the distinctive sound that was a signature of many internationally-acclaimed artists and musicians.
The larger Studio B features video projection and is suitable for orchestral or larger ensemble recording, or film scoring. Complementing the two main studios are a smaller mixing studio and two vocal isolation rooms.
