What if Wedding Videos DIDN’T Suck?

That was the question that we started with. Hey this is Brian Morrow writing this. I’m the original founder of Shark Pig Weddings, and I have always thought it was weird to write in the third person. Back in 2010 I was hanging out and working for a crew of folks who were pretty interested in disrupting “business as usual” in the wedding world. And if you’re new to the scene (like a couple who just got engaged) it’s good to understand that it really is a whole weird little world of it’s own: weddings. Anyway - The other OG members of companies like Our Labor of Love, The Flashdance, Smilebooth and Max Wanger Studio, were all working in the wedding world but making DOPE material. Really amazing photos. DJing a wedding but not saying corny s**t on the mic or playing YMCA. It was different! And one day I said, “You know I could definitely make a wedding video for some of these couples you’re working with.” and bizarrely enough, the initial reaction from everyone was, “No. Wedding videos are cheesy.” I was baffled! I said, “F**k that. Wedding photos are cheesy! Wedding DJs are cheesy! I thought the point was we can take those jobs and not do cheesy things.” (As an aside - I have nothing against cheese.) Since it’s a visual culture we live in, I just made one or two to show everyone, and right away things started brewing. They loved the films and shared them with their already robust social networks. This was back in the day of blogs! Lots of people saw my little films, and wrote me emails asking if I would make a film about their wedding day. I didn’t even know what the charge or how to do business back then. I didn’t even have a camera! I had to borrow them from friends. Eventually I got busy enough to start bringing other people into the mix. Shark Pig Weddings became a partnership. Then it grew into multiple franchises spread out over the country. Then it turned into a production company in Los Angeles. THEN it finally got legit. Shark Pig Weddings is now a collective of artists who can CRUSH wedding videography. We make highly edited, super stylish short films from your wedding day. We charge a lot of money now because we figured out that to do them right, it takes a lot of work. After 9 years in business, we found out that people watch our films year after year. They watch our films when family members pass away. Our films become more than documents; they’re heirlooms. We accept that responsibility with reverence in our hearts. Hit us up if you want us to come do our work on your big day. We have a team of more than 10 people. We’ve shot in 17 countries. We try to do a little more than 100 weddings annually. But every one that we do is unique and important. We take our job seriously, but we also dance our way through the reception. I could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it up. This company changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. If you’re a wedding industry professional - I hope you can connect to the value of the work we do for clients in a similar way. If you’re a couple who’s just gotten engaged - congratulations! My only two pieces of advice are: 1. Find vendors who care about what they do. 2. Do what YOU want with your wedding. And of course if you need us, we would be honored to make a film for you. -B
