One of the great things that the medium of short films allows is the ability to try to capture very unique scenes and situations on film. And through Kristina Thomas' storytelling, we're provided an opportunity to creates scenes that stick with audiences. Scenes that should stick with an audience, long after the credit have rolled.

Storytelling is like music, art, cooking, or any other art form, for that matter. Even though there are standard techniques to apply to these things, every story, or song, or painting or meal is unique, despite the application of technique. We've been thinking about that lately, as we watch this first collection of stories come in from our creative partners.

Having such a wide variety of storytelling styles to chose from provides us with a fun challenge, as we bounce from set to set, figuring out how we transition from shooting a tense dinner table scene, to shooting a heist, or a coroner's office.

As we bounce from place to place, we intend to bring you along for the ride.

We love working with writers who give us scripts that we love, and don't have to worry about.

Having that luxury allows everyone to enjoy being on set, experiencing a collective sense of excitement that's hard to describe.

There's a certain feeling you get when you read a script that you can't wait to shoot. All of a sudden, your mind begins to fill in the details, like some kid filling in the page in a coloring book. You imagine the type actors and performances required to pull off the scene, and remind ourselves that in just a few months, all of these questions will get answered the moments the cameras start to roll.

As we read through some of these stories during our first production season, we're excited that the characters our writers are conceiving of are people we absolutely want to bring to life.

Here at The Slate, we know that telling a good story is the most important thing. But often, the second most important thing is knowing who you're telling the story for, and the career goals attached to each production.

As a result, we require a DOUBLE DOSE of artistic inspiration, and practical business thinking about a project before it's launched to ensure that every performer attached will receive maximum career benefits from its exposure and popularity.

Over the years, this approach has enabled us to find a lot of wonderful and talented actors on their way up. Here are just a few of the mega talents we've worked with over the years.

If you'd like to join our community of artists who truly care the craft of acting, writing, directing, producing, cinematography, post-production, and practically every other discipline associated with filmmaking, then you should definitely follow The Slate, to help you begin crafting a more solid road map for your career. So far- here is a general description of the screenwriters we've partnered with:

A lover of dark comedy and horror. A writer of post apocolyptic fiction. A comedy writer that skewers politicians. A visionary who tells emotional stories in rotoscope. An actor, turned feature film screenwriter, and two storytellers currently developing series with HBO.

Here at The Slate, we haven't just assembled talented writers to create our first production line-up- we've assembled artists whose work we generally admire:

From Andy Greskoviak's feature Black Friday, to Daniel King's series Sweet Tooth, to the genuinely funny indie feature "House of Balls" written by Kristina Thomas. Across the board, the existing work of our storytellers is reflected in the quality of work they've produced for The Slate during our inaugural production season (sorry that sounded too formal, didn't it?)..our first season of short films :)

Hi actors, another Slate Creator that we're incredibly excited to introduce you to:

As a successful WGA screenwriter, as well as an actor that's starred in popular features, we're teaming up with Kristen Ruhlin to create unique performance opportunities for actors. ,Additionally, we're asking Kristen to draw upon all of her industry experiences- both as a screenwriter that penned a successful thriller, and as an actor who's acted opposite Josh Gadd, Hillary Duff, Thomas Middleditch, and Sigourney Weaver, to create a series of unique narratives for The Slate with actors in mind.

Ultimately, our goal isn't just to tell great stories (although that is incredibly important!). We also want to make sure that these stories contain characters that allow Slate premium members to really "show their stuff" as actors.
And who better to partner with than an artist that's experienced success both in front of, and behind the camera?

If you're an actor looking to simplify your career path while auditioning regularly for some pretty amazing productions, then there's really only one thing left to do:

First of all- a special shout out to our Creative Director and Head Writer (Leilani Downer and Dylan Johnson, respectively) for helping us find the talent we've assembled for this first production season.

Now that the stories are coming together, we're realizing that partnering with a wide variety of writers that specialize in different aspects of writing (feature films, comedy, dystopian drama) is producing a nice variety of content for us to produce.

Such variety in storytelling also allows us to begin thinking about all of the unique characters that have been created, and how we can start to convey what these characters are like, and how they should be performed during auditions.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to follow the Slate! (below) https://view.flodesk.com/pages/6204125ee0eda1a0d870a215
