“Tough” love, to me, is a way to destroy how genuine love is suppose to be expressed. Hear me out - Why should we correlate inflicting pain (whoopings/beatings) to love, especially to a child? If that type of “love” doesn’t apply in adult relationships, why do we apply it in the first place, especially in our primitive, learning years? I think it’s a flawed method.
