The student editors of Havik are proud to announce that the new edition, titled Homeward, will come out in June.
Havik, Las Positas College’s Journals of Arts and Literature, has been published for over 40 years. This year’s edition is a substantial 360 pages – over 100 pages thicker than previous editions.
Managing Editor Donovan Brunk said, “With the COVID-19 pandemic, it was challenging to get the book out. However, we all pulled through, and this book is one of the densest we have ever released.”
This is the journal’s first time with a new category called Experimental Works. In addition, the book includes work in Art, Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Academic Writing and Poetry categories.
The staff has been working very hard on the book, meeting virtually since March.
The staff will hold a virtual reception on Saturday, June 27 from 4 to 5 p.m. on Zoom. More details about this event will be posted on the Havik website, HavikJournal.com.
Public Relations Manager Brandon Byrne said, “Working with the people on our talented staff this year made the book better than ever.”
Jude Strzemp, who designed and created the new Havik website, stated, “I hope that the book and website will positively impact the community.”
Some of the work from the book will be published on the website. Directions for purchasing books can be found on the website.
The staff appreciate all the sponsors that contributed to the new book. Havik is still seeking sponsors. Sponsorship forms are available on the website.
Havik is produced every spring by students in classes offered by the English and Mass Communications programs at Las Positas College. The classes, Journal of Arts and Writing A and B, offer students hands-on training in the creation of the journal.
