VIDEO RELEASED SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 - BIELSKO-BIALA, POLAND

Although I'm not particularly fond of Red Bull energy drinks, I must admit that this advertisement is incredibly impressive! Imagine if Dawid Godziek could elevate this performance by executing those stunts while casually holding a beer bottle, taking occasional sips between train cars, and seamlessly incorporating jumps and flips into the routine! The sheer audacity of such a feat would be truly mind-blowing! Haha!

In a stunning display of skill, 2024 Slopestyle World Champion Dawid Godziek made mountain biking history by performing daring tricks on a moving train.READ ...

OP ED

Craft breweries often amuse me with their excuse of attributing bad-tasting beers to the brewer's "interpretation" of a classic style. What a joke! Take Unibroue's La Fin du Monde, for example, a stellar rendition of a Belgian Tripel. It used to reign as the top Tripel globally until recent management changes shifted the company's focus from solely brewing exceptional beer to dabbling in political and social causes. This shift led to the departure of long-time master brewer Jerry Vietz, impacting the overall quality of Unibroue's beers under the new brewing team.

Lately, I've encountered some disappointing craft beers, including a lackluster Pilsner from an East Bay brewery which shall remain unnamed. Fortunately, it was just a complimentary sample, sparing me from wasting any cash.

I wholeheartedly support variety and innovation in brewing, but only when it results in a superb beer worth investing in. One shining example of this is CUVER Belgian Brewers in Windsor, CA, where Brewmaster Hendrik Verspecht, a biochemistry master's degree holder from the University of Ghent, Belgium, showcases his brewing prowess through award-winning recipes. With a brewing lineage that spans four generations, Hendrik's expertise truly shines through in the quality of his brews.

In conclusion: Please spare me the clichés about a brewer's interpretation; if your beer falls short, then strive to make it better!

The sheer volume of spam emails flooding my inbox these days is truly astonishing. I can't help but chuckle at the absurdity of unsolicited companies showering me with lines like, "It's truly remarkable how far your business has come over the years," as if they have been avid followers of the Beer Review Journal.

Adding to the amusement are the spam emails from irrelevant companies like hop suppliers who clearly haven't bothered to do their homework on Beer Review Journal and its audience. A simple check would reveal that I am neither a brewer nor own a brewery.

It's rather fascinating how people manage to uncover details about my identity. I suppose that could be viewed as a positive thing...

QUICK BEER REVIEWS ON OTHERWISE BREWING’S GUAVA FRESCA AND ST. SUREAU

I am not normally a fan of gluten-free beers. The offerings from Otherwise Brewing are far beyond and much tastier than what you know “gluten free” beers to be.

Take my word for it- the beers from Otherwise Brewing are thoughtful, and extremely well crafted.

Both the Guava Fresca and the St. Sureau are very much worth your attention.

Last beer for the evening. Fremont Brewing’s Dark Star Imperial Oatmeal Stout. There is a beautiful rich, silky smoothness in this beer that makes it quite sessionable even at 8% ABV.

Available at BevMo! - pick some up today.

The last time I had a stout from Fremont Brewing was in 2015, and savored their 2011 Fremont Dark Star Bourbon Barrel vintage 2011 clocking in at 14.5% ABV. Yes, it was fabulous as ever…

The country's beer culture is deeply ingrained in its history, with many breweries dating back centuries and still using traditional methods to produce exceptional brews.

Additionally, Belgium is home to some of the world's most renowned beer styles, such as the iconic Trappist Dubbel, Tripel, and Quadrupel. NEW BELGIUM’s TRIPPEL

I first tasted this classic in 1993. At the time, although a well made beer, I felt it was a bit too hoppy. To me, it seemed to taste too much of an “Americanized” Tripel.

I enjoyed it many times in the decade following. The flavor profile of New Belgium Brewing’s Trippel improved in that period of time.

The most recent tasting of it before today was 2014. Expericing again was a bit of a revelation, as the overall flavor profile has improved quite a bit, with the malt and hop profiles being more appropriate. The spicy phenols and fruity esters truly stand out in this beer, and provide an overall good drinking experience.

Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dopplebock is truly a masterpiece, a beer that embodies centuries of brewing tradition and expertise. From the moment you pour it into a glass, the deep, rich mahogany color hints at the bold flavors that await.

The aroma is a delightful blend of toasted malt, caramel, and a hint of dark fruit. With the first sip, you're greeted with a symphony of flavors - roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, and a subtle spiciness that lingers on the palate. The mouthfeel is velvety smooth, with just the right amount of carbonation to enhance the complexity of this brew.

What sets Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dopplebock apart is its perfect balance. Despite its robust 7.4% ABV, the alcohol is well integrated, adding warmth without overpowering the other flavors. This beer is full-bodied and decadent, making it perfect for savoring on with hearty dishes like roasted meats or rich desserts.

Overall, Weihenstephaner Korbinian Dopplebock is a beer that demands to be enjoyed slowly, allowing you to appreciate the depth of flavors and the craftsmanship that went into creating it. Whether you're a seasoned beer enthusiast or just beginning to explore the world of craft brews, this Dopplebock is sure to impress with its complexity and character. Cheers to Weihenstephaner for crafting such a remarkable beer that stands the test of time.

IT ALL BEGAN IN A WARM JULY DAY IN 1981...

In the warm July of 1981, a young soul at the tender age of 17 found himself captivated by the allure of a television program showcasing the beauty of Ireland. As the program delved into the enchanting tales of the St. James's Gate Brewery and the iconic Guinness Extra Stout, a newfound fascination ignited within him.

The rich history, the meticulous craftsmanship, and the deep-rooted traditions surrounding the Guinness Stout stirred something within him, a curiosity that demanded sating. It was in that moment, as he watched the creamy black stout cascade into a pint glass, that he knew - his first beer had to be the Guinness Extra Stout.

As he lifted the bottle to his lips and took that first, momentous sip, a symphony of flavors unfolded on his palate. The robust notes of roasted barley, the velvety texture, and the lingering bitterness painted a masterpiece on his taste buds. Each sip was a journey through time and tradition, a homage to the craftsmen who had perfected this brew over centuries.

That day, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the world seemed to hold its breath, a young man's love affair with beer began. And it all started with a television program, a dream of Ireland, and a pint of Guinness Extra Stout.

That young soul, was yours truly.

Since July 1981, I have had the opportunity to savor beers originating from various corners of the globe. Among them, Belgian beers have secured a special place in my heart. However, my initiation into the world of beer was not through brands like Bud, Miller, or Coors, nor was it Hamm's, Lucky Lager, or similar types. It was the distinctive taste of Guinness Extra Stout that marked the beginning of my beer exploration at the age of 17. As I reflect on my journey 43 years later, I acknowledge that there is still much more for me to discover and learn.

Symbol of freedom, in everything we do.
A reminder of sacrifices, that were bravely made,

Those who fought for our freedom, every night and day.
