STORY BEHIND THE HYMN

Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior" is a 19th-century American hymn written by F***y Crosby in 1868, set to music by William H. Doane in 1870.

Born March 24, 1820, Frances Jane Crosby endured her first hardship as a six-week-old infant when a visiting physician mistreated an eye infection. The family believed his attempts to treat the infection resulted in total blindness

She was blinded by the traveling doctor who treated her eye infection at six weeks old with hot mustard poultices, a treatment that burned her corneas. Shortly thereafter the family suffered another tragedy when her father passed away, forcing her mother to take work as a maid to provide for them.

The great F***y Crosby wrote "Pass Me Not" when hearing the cry of an inmate during prison ministry. Her words have come to mean a lot to many people, reminding us that when we call out in humble trust, our Lord never passes us by!

Pass me not” and “Do not pass me by” are lyrics that do not mean that God will pass you by if you seek him out. They are from the perspective of the singer asking for help. We are to pray with humility and with the comfort that He will not pass us by because His work has already been done on the cross.

Blind from six weeks of age, F***y Crosby is known as one of the most prolific hymn writers in U.S. history. By the time of her death, she had written between 5,500 to 9,000 hymns

The bison is to put food on their tables for at least a week to help them get by the hard period
