Vehicle City Classic expands to two sites. In a press conference this morning at Grand Blanc High, organizers of the annual Vehicle City Classic announced the eight high school teams that will open their seasons at the Vehicle City Classic.

For the first time since its inception, the Flint & Genesee Vehicle City Gridiron Classic will be hosted at two locations. Now in its seventh year, the event – which serves as the official kick off to the high school football season – will be held at Grand Blanc High School’s Don Batchelor Field Aug. 29 and Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium Aug. 30.

This is the first time the event has been held at Grand Blanc.

“We’re honored to co-host what has become an important tradition for our football community,” said Dr. Trevor Alward, superintendent of Grand Blanc Community Schools. “We look forward to welcoming the teams, their fans, and other sports enthusiasts to our newly renovated stadium for a day of competition and camaraderie.”

This year’s games will feature matchups between both inter-county and inter-state rivals. This includes:

Thursday, Aug. 29 at Grand Blanc High School’s Don Batchelor Field

4 p.m. – Muskegon Catholic Central vs. New Lothrop
7 p.m. – Muskegon Mona Shores vs. Grand Blanc
Friday, Aug. 30 at Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium

1 p.m. – Flint Southwestern vs. Bentley
4 p.m. – Lakeville vs. Bendle
“The Vehicle City Gridiron Classic brings together some of our region’s most competitive football programs and gives their players an opportunity to compete at two of the finest sports fields in our state,” said Judge Duncan Beagle, president of the Vehicle City Sports Committee. “The event allows the athletes to showcase their skills not only to fans and community members, but also to college scouts from throughout the state.”

Tickets are $10 at the gate. They will also be available for purchase online at GOFan.co for $11 (including processing fee) beginning two weeks before the event. Stadium parking is $5 at Atwood. There is no cost for parking at Grand Blanc.

“Flint & Genesee has always been a sports community,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Group. “Events like the Vehicle City Gridiron Classic underscore that, building upon an athletic legacy that is nearly a century in the making.”
