Seva mastered the new single for Afrika Bambaataa's new group, GREAT DARK RIFT. It's TOM SAWYER by RUSH believe it believe it. We also added guitars, wurly, MOOG synths, serious remix edits, and final mix. It's a 21st century schizoid version straight from the BRONX. The original was released in 1981 – same year as Planet Rock... Musicians need intense focus, without distractions, away from the world outside. At Sequoyah Studios and Soundcurrent Mastering, we are fanatics about music being better than you thought possible. Get away from it all, inside Sequoyah Studios. Just call to set up a visit!

WHY is the PLACE and the PEOPLE so IMPORTANT in a RECORDING STUDIO?

Two things: SOUND and VIBE. you gotta have world-class SOUND and the right VIBE.

Sequoyah Studios has NYC and ATL recording studio quality at much lower costs! Mix and Master, overdubs, video creation, and more. You can do everything here because Sequoyah is a production house. For example (and wow what an example!): Katie Noel and Diesel Gang Records is part of Sequoyah! Sequoyah is the real thing: completely isolated building-inside-a-building, vintage analog and best-in-class digital gear, and 2 guys who know what they're doing, especially after being in the business for over 70 years combined.

We have: a Grammy™, an Emmy™, a South African Music Award (SAMAS™), over 8000 songs mastered, mixed, produced, restored, or transferred, two Grammy™ nominations, and a reputation for a tendency to underpromise and overdeliver. That's a good thing.

We have: 7 iso rooms, SourceConnect, Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, FL Studio, Nuendo, Mixbus 32C, Reaper, Premiere, Final Cut, Avid, private kitchen, 17 places to take a nap, and three recliners. Believe us they become more important as sessions go on.

We have amazing clients: Katie Noel, Tony MacAlpine, Dolly Parton, Jim Lauderdale, Corrosion of Conformity, Metallica, David Bowie, Disciple, Pillar, Place of Skulls, Rabbi Shergill, Wah!, Godsized, Netflix, Lifetime, PBS, and lots more.

We have your interest in mind. We want to serve you by serving your music and letting it sound better than you ever expected. In fact this is said by so many clients, "I never sounded this good, I never knew I *could* sound this good" and it's not because of autotune or something else. It has to do with Our Love Of Music.

Soundcurrent Mastering is part of Sequoyah Studios, and man alive do we have a hot special: $200 for 5-hour session. *Very* limited offer. Really good bands could cut 4 songs in 5 hours (takes practice; you know the Beatles had played 500 dates before they ever walked into a studio?).

A few days ago we had a cancellation from a client preparing to book a very large block of days (an entire month) and they've not been able to secure their funds, so we have inventory (studio time) available RIGHT NOW. plus a 1-hour setup time doesn't count against your studio time.

Call or text now, 305-519-3494. There's only 24 more days available, limited supply for sure. We've booked 6 days since the first posting and have adjusted the deal to what people were asking for: a fat half day. All 5 hours are on a single day and can be used for recording, mixing, mastering, overdubs, whatever you need. Call or text now, 305-519-3494.

CHECK THE LEVELS AGAIN.

my preferences for mix down masters to be sent for mastering? i prefer -6 to -12dB headroom at 24bit, original tracking sample rate. that means it's mixed at that level, not turned down afterwards, etc.

my advice to my 1700 college students over the years:

keep your meter on a recording track in the middle 1/3 of the meter. doesn’t matter if it’s VU, DIN, K-, PPE, Norwegian, CBS, or only one tri-color LED: don’t go above the 2/3 line for any peaks.

pull all your faders down if your master is clipping, ah yes, but wait:

this is to keep your MASTER meters in the middle 1/3, averaging around -20dBFS. make the mix sound good to you. don't do any limiting, but do any taste-channel-compression-eq you want to.

the volume wars are over. the target is -15dBLUFS which is -1dB lower than Youtube, +3 over Tidal, +1 over Spotify, etc.

CDs peaked out at -5dBFS LUFS with metallica death magnetic. most CDs of rap and rock are around -8. of course there are norwegian metal bands and exceptions.

BUT now that most people's income will be from streaming, uh, like 96% of it, no reason to smash anything anymore at all, unless you like the SOUND of no dynamics.

therefore, use the middle 1/3 of the Master Meter, ignore anyone who says it's TOO LOW, and make mixes you love.

now, the numbers i quote may be right/wrong/subject to change so don't waste time arguing. make some music. sound better.

Hey just finished mastering the 42nd project for this year 2018. While that may not sound like a lot for a mastering engineer, it was in addition to recording and mixing 7 albums, 4 films, 17 music videos, and quite a lot of commercials. Oh! and mixing Chris Blue for NBC’s Winter Olympics. Here comes 2019! Not sure about mastering? Think you already have a great person? Send me one song and I’ll show you that you have a choice — and at no charge.
