This weekend’s Thunderbird 2-Day Charter had some great Bluefin fishing offshore, with 39 Bluefin Tuna up to 114lbs for just 16 anglers. We’re adding on a *NEW* open party 2-day overnight leaving tomorrow night, Tuesday at 9pm- Thursday 7pm🎣
We’re targeting Bluefin specifically for this trip, and the hot ticket has been Knife/ butterfly jigs with a Mustad heavy-duty assist hook with a loop at the end attached to either end of that knife jig.

Most octopus only have a lifespan of about 2-3 years and may even squirt ink and do all sorts of acrobatics as you try to pull them off your hook. The easiest way to get these guys off your hook is to hang them slightly out of the water and most of the time they will get themselves off of the hook (If you're not interested in keeping them).
.
If that doesn’t work, it can be challenging to get the hook off because they might wrap their arms around you or the pole and they may leave a pretty good welt. In some situations it is necessary to take the bait knife and tease the flesh of the octopus away from the hook in order to release it.
.

👉Crystal Clear Water: might give you an advantage as the mono line will be invisible to the fish, better luck on the bite.
👉Fishing areas where lures become snagged: If you're fishing areas where your lure keeps getting snagged, you may want to think about adding a Fluorocarbon or Mono Leader. If you are using Braid it’s almost impossible to snap the line, but if you tie on a leader you will be able to break the line right at the knot. Using a light leader will control how much line is broken off at one time.
👉Fishing in the Wind: Fluorocarbon is stiffer than braid, so in really windy conditions it may help keep your bait from tumbling and twisting up in the wind.
👉A leader also saves main line: Using a Leader allows you to save the amount of braid your cutting every time you tie on a new lure; since braid is pretty darn expensive, tying on a leader can save some money in the long run.
👉It acts as a Shock Absorbed: Most braids have almost no stretch; because of that hook-sets can sometimes be a problem for those who run straight braid. When fishing baits where heavy hook-sets might be a problem, adding a leader can help cushion the direct pressure on the hook, helping you nail those big bass without ripping the hook right out of their mouth.

Capt. Rusty recommends a 20-25lb set up w/ fluorocarbon (the YT have been a little line shy, so a liter set up is always a good go to), we’re fly lining live sardines at the surface, so just a #4-#1 hook on live bait should do the trick!
