Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some important tips about space heater safety. 🔥❄️

1️⃣ Keep a safe distance: Make sure to place your space heater at least 3 feet away from any flammable objects like curtains or furniture.

2️⃣ No unattended heating: Never leave your space heater on when you're not around or while you're sleeping. Safety first!

3️⃣ Plug it in right: Always plug your space heater directly into a wall outlet, and avoid using extension cords or power strips.

4️⃣ Stay in sight: Don't leave your space heater running in a room that you're not in. Keep an eye on it for any signs of malfunction or overheating.

5️⃣ Keep it clear: Keep the area around your space heater clear of any clutter or obstructions. It needs space to do its job safely!

1:39PM CST until January 8 at 9:00PM
CST by NWS Houston/Galveston TX

The National Weather Service has issued Tornado Watch 1 in effect until 9 PM CST this evening for the following areas

In Texas this watch includes 16 counties
In southeast Texas

Austin Brazoria Chambers Colorado Fort Bend Galveston Grimes Harris Liberty Montgomery Polk San Jacinto, Walker Waller Washington Wharton

This includes the cities of Alvin, Anahuac, Angleton, Bellville, Brenham, Brookshire, Cleveland, Clute, Coldspring, Columbus, Conroe, Corrigan, Dayton, Dickinson, Eagle Lake, El Campo, First Colony, Freeport, Friendswood, Galveston, Hempstead, Houston, Huntsville, Lake Jackson, League City, Liberty, Livingston, Mission Bend, Missouri City, Mont Belvieu, Navasota, Old River-Winfree, Pearland, Pecan Grove, Prairie View, Rosenberg, Sealy, Shepherd, Stowell, Sugar Land, Texas City, The Woodlands, Waller, Weimar, Wharton, and Winnie.

TORNADO WATCH NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9PM
If you're in the highlighted counties, make sure you have a way to receive weather warnings and have a plan in place in case you go under a warning.

In addition to a few intense tornadoes (EF-2 or stronger), 70 mph wind gusts and golf ball size hail are possible.

The watch runs until 9PM because it includes many counties in southern Louisiana, too. Our severe weather threat will end once the front clears the coast, which should happen by around 7PM.

NEW: The Storm Prediction Center says a Tornado Watch will likely be needed in the dashed red zone I've highlighted around the warm front. So far so good for Houston. Hopefully we can keep it that way.

I’ve had a few messages asking about a large fire on Katy Hockley Rd. This is currently happening.

🚨 ALERT!
Harris County Flood Control is planning a prescribed burn tomorrow (Dec. 6), weather permitting, in the Katy Hockley Mitigation Area. The prescribed burn will suppress undesirable species and promote growth in native vegetation within the entire 440-acre wetland mitigation area.

Take it as you want:

If you have an iPhone and have done the recent iOS 17 update, they have set a new feature called NameDrop defaulted to ON. This feature allows the sharing of your contact info just by bringing your phones close together.

To shut this off go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together. Change to OFF.

PARENTS: Don’t forget to change these settings after the update on your children’s phones, also, to help keep them safe as well!
