Insane performance yesterday by the cast and crew of “Rock of Ages” at the Warwick put on by Nick Padgett!! Can’t say enough about he and this amazingly funny and super musically talented bunch of stars. If you missed it I’m truly sorry for you. Thankfully I caught its closing show. Anyways … check out Rocky Horror at the Black Box in a few weeks.

Even deeper reasons -

The women singing this song and in this photograph are projecting a grim reality of our judicial system and the racism that exists in our country. They’re giving a voice to the voiceless. This is not who they are and the reality portrayed is too close for comfort. They could have been Sandra Bland if the circumstances were slightly tilted. Barely a parallel dimension apart. So we celebrate these women who took on this uncomfortable role in order to bring some light to the darkness.

is not only a singer but a published poet and songwriter

is not only a singer but a hairstylist

is not only a singer but a med student at KU

There’s a million facets to every one of them, just like the real women behind bars. Mothers, daughters, artists, athletes ... on and on.

We have to learn to see more beyond the image. Take care of each other.
