Some of us ended up relocating to different cities for work, and after working between Nashville and Los Angeles for several years, we realized that we wanted to focus on growing our hometowns music scene with the knowledge and skills we amassed with our time away. Coming back, we discovered that although there are plenty of great classic commercial studios in town, there weren’t very many options
for an artist to work with an experienced producer who would not only help to compose, record, edit, mix and master they’re song, but also walk them through the process and ultimately help them grow as artists, unlike the stressful classic hourly-rate studio environment of years passed. Where we feel that we’re different is that we walk and work with a client from the beginning of the process, and because of our years of experience as engineers and musicians, can either record and produce a band that comes to us with a fully written song and wants to play all their parts, or help a solo artist find and craft their dream sound from the ground up. We also understand that some solo artists don’t just want a fully programmed sound when working with a producer, but if you start to add up the costs of session players, mix engineers, mastering engineers, and outsourced producers, the costs can rise to an often time unachievable level, usually resulting in an artist being unable to create the art that they’re so passionate about. Which is why if the artist requests, we can record most every instrument (with the exception of some odd ball or orchestral instruments) that you could want on a record at no extra cost. And with us you’re not just getting one producers ears on your record, but two (Joshua Ryan and Caleb Haskins). At Big Chair Records, we understand that those costs are daunting because we’ve all been there before, but we also never wanted to have to limit our creativity or cause our art to suffer due to the pressure of recording at an hourly rate. This is what inspired us to dig so deep into learning the ins and outs of music composition and production. We ultimately want any artist that comes through our door to leave feeling like they not only got to make their dream record, but also got to grow and learn about the process themselves. We’re not afraid of any genre, because we are all simply fans of music in general and looking for a challenge ourselves. We want artists to feel like they have a place to push the envelope and experiment creatively without feeling like they’re under the gun of an hourly rate.
