: The KC Community Survey will be knocking on doors all over Kansas City during October 5-13 collecting information about crime, economic resources, social cohesion, and other services.

The survey will help determine the efficacy of Violence Prevention Fund investments around Kansas City over five years. A similar wave of surveys will happen in five years to see what has changed.

The latest from our FOX4 Mornings buddy Matt Stewart:

My first visit to my oncologist is in the books. He confirmed it is colon cancer and was surprised it metastasized considering the surgery I did three and a half years ago showed no evidence the cancer had spread. I was Type Zero. But one sneaky cell attached to a lymph node outside my colon and spread from there.
FYI, I’m not interested in conspiracy theories on how I got it. We live in a world filled with polluted water and air and it happened. My body didn’t stop it from spreading. Now is the time to take action. We are all exposed to cancer-causing chemicals each and every day, and the rise in cancer, especially in young adults, is very concerning! The number one risk of colon cancer? Red meat. So I’m going to give that up.
I am going to eat as vegan as possible to prepare my body for the fight ahead. Chrissy is a dietitian, so she’ll make sure I get all the nutrients I need! We are testing genetic markers to determine whether to do immunotherapy or chemo. Chemo will be very taxing on my body but we won’t have a plan for six weeks. I plan on trusting science and doing what the doctor thinks is best! This is one of the most common cancers out there, and there’s a ton of research on how to beat it. First I need to do radiation on my brain to kill all the teeny tiny cancer cells left behind. Then treatment for the rest of my body. I wish I knew how long before I could return to FOX4, but I just don’t know yet.
I am recovering well. Still a tad dizzy but managing. The doctor says my age (49) and overall health gives me an excellent chance to live many more years. While there is no cure, the hope is to kill the cancer inside me right now and keep it from growing for as long as possible . Thank you again for all of your love and support! I could not do this without all of you!
