"Revenue from the tax would go to pay debt that the county would incur for its upfront share of construction costs. How much would that be? That’s nowhere to be found in any of the paperwork..."

What a mess. I voted no. And I've dreamed of a downtown ballpark since the 1990s.

The agreements the teams signed for their stadium projects won’t be legally binding until the county legislature approves. There are more steps left to a new stadium than you might think.

Dear friends of The Loop:

I regret to inform you that, after more than two years of publication, we will be bringing The Loop to a close early next year with the April issue.

We are proud of the Downtown-loving community we have developed, with hundreds of direct subscribers to the newsletter and thousands of followers on Instagram and Twitter. However, to make The Loop viable financially, we would need more paid subscribers, more staff, and — to be candid — I would need better health.

For now, I want to thank you for supporting us and The Loop over these past two years. We had readers in 26 states and nine countries, with an excellent email open rate and a couple thousand (or more) views every month.

I also want to thank my dear friend and business partner Joe Nichols, who believed in The Loop with the same passion and understanding that I did. Not only did I appreciate his assistance, but a great friendship was rekindled and — if you know Joe — you know that he is among the wisest and kindest souls to be found anywhere.

Finally, a thank-you to my sweet and patient wife Karen for giving me the opportunity to pursue this concept in the first place. It was a dream fulfilled to write about Downtown, to connect with like-minded urban enthusiasts, and to share my love for this city.

I will likely delete this Downtown Loop Facebook account soon, but you can still follow on Instagram or Twitter.

In the meantime, I’ll see you on the streetcar.

Kevin

After the NFL Draft, I heard directly and indirectly from Downtown businesses that not only didn’t experience huge Draft Weekend crowds — they also missed out on their regulars and typical business days because many customers just avoided Downtown altogether with all the hype.

While these businesses expressed their pride and happiness with KC hosting such a monumental event, they also felt a loss to their bottom lines.

Some acknowledged, “that’s business,” but I’d like to suggest we make an extra effort this week to seek out and support our favorite businesses from 18th and Vine to the West Bottoms, River Market/Columbus Park to Midtown.

Where might YOU go?
