The Big Aristotle, one of the creative nicknames associated with basketball great and NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, is putting his moniker and star power behind the newest fast-food restaurant in Northwest Arkansas.

Ronnie Dedman knew his wife, Margaret (Preston) Dedman, as a woman of singular skills from the very first time he set eyes on her. “This church in Little Rock invited me as a representative of AT&T and Margaret as a representative of Arkla Gas and they invited the people of Entergy there to come in and talk about our companies,” Ronnie said. “They had me and the guy from Entergy there just as cover. I recently sat down with Jay Whitaker of Red Sea Cooking and Catering to talk food. I could tell this man was passionate about his craft by the chef's coat he Donned.

Jay hails from North Carolina where he started cooking at just 13 years old. His passion and love for cooking grew out of catastrophe when Hurricane Bertha passed through his neighborhood destroying nearby houses. His family was spared, and thankfully his mother was prepared. For decades, Little Rock’s West Ninth Street was the heart of the city’s African American community, home to businesses, schools and fraternal organizations. The Mosaic Templars of America was a black fraternal order founded by John E. Bush and Chester W. Keatts, two former slaves, in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1883. Donald R. Cravins Jr., Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development, announced the formation of a congressionally mandated national business advisory council to promote the growth of minority-owned businesses across the U.S.

Under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency's (MBDA) was charged to develop the Minority Business Enterprise Advisory Council. This council will advise and assist MBDA in their mission to promote the growth of minority-owned businesses.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas recently reappointed Dr. Calvin King of Brinkley to the FHLB Dallas Affordable Housing Advisory Council (Advisory Council).

The FHLB Advisory Council is comprised of 13 representatives from state, community and nonprofit organizations in FHLB Dallas’ five-state district, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas. Each council member is appointed by the FHLB Dallas Board of Directors (Board) and advises the federal board on affordable housing and economic development issues.

Urban Renewal had no meaning or significance to me as a young adult, but today it is a dirty word. In my opinion, the passage of the Federal Housing Act of 1949 divided the City of Little Rock. The pattern we see today of Blacks living primarily east of Interstate 30 and whites to the west of Interstate 430 is a result of post-World War II housing practices that sought to “redevelop” blighted areas.....

It is TIME to CELEBRATE Happy birthday to composer Florence Price, April 9, 1887 to June 3, 1953. Florence Price was the first African-American woman whose works were played in a five star Orchestra the Chicago Symphony in
1933. She was a resident in the Dunbar Historic Distruct for 44 years! She came back home to Little Rock in 1934 and played a concert at the Dunbar high school at the time now Dunbar Magnet school! In 2021 the auditorium at the school was named after Florence B Price salute!
