Is it Washington's Birthday or President's Day? The official holiday is still listed as "Washington's Birthday" in congressional documents. It was never officially renamed to President's Day or made binding in all 50 states. And it gets even more complicated...

By the time Washington became president in 1789, he celebrated his birthday on February 22 and listed his birth year as 1732. But he was originally born on Feb 11, 1731. (His birthday changed to February 22, 1732 with the adoption of the New-Style Gregorian calendar.)

Retail has played a large part in the terminology changing by hosting "President's Day Sales," but Lincoln's birthday is also nearby on Feb 12th. Calling it "President's Day" allows us to reflect on two remarkable presidents. Today is one of only eleven permanent federal holidays established by Congress. Happy President's Day!
