Due to extremely hazardous conditions, the bypass in Jacksonville is being closed down. The road is closed from the intersection of NC 53 / US 258 to NC 24 near Sanders Ford. If you must travel tonight please use extreme caution as snow and ice have accumulated on all road surfaces.

From base officials:

MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River are currently under Winter Storm Condition I, signifying winter weather will begin to impact the installations in the next six hours.

The bases will remain open for essential operations only. Reduced services and closures of most facilities will begin today, lasting until Thursday, depending on weather conditions.

Base visitor centers will close at 1 p.m. today and remain closed until Thursday at noon. The Contractor Vetting offices at Holcomb Gate and Piney Green Gate will operate under normal hours today but be closed Wednesday until noon.

The Triangle Outpost Gate on MCB Camp Lejeune will remain closed until 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The Piney Green Gate will close at 5 p.m. today with the intent to reopen on Thursday at noon.

The Sneads Ferry Bridge is subject to short-notice closure by the N.C. Department of Transportation, due to hazardous conditions, which will affect Sneads Ferry Gate operations.

The Onslow Beach Bridge will be subject to closure due to hazardous conditions as well. Due to safety precautions of patrons and emergency responders, Onslow Beach patrons are being evacuated today.

The Douglass Gate on MCAS New River will close today at 1 p.m. and remain closed through Thursday. The gate will resume normal operating hours on Friday, pending weather conditions.
