Well dear Queen Agnes is about to depart the parlour as quick as she arrived . Her new owner claimed her today .
So here is her story …

I found Queen Agnes in a dark , abandoned , and lonely home where she sat in the dark with furniture stacked upon her . When I found her she was so tickled to meet me . But I was not so enamored with her . She was in rougher shape than I anticipated and heavy and awkward to lift. My husband gave me that look of “what in the heck of j***y junk are you buying “ .

But I could see past her flaws and see her hidden beauty . But it was overwhelming. So I put her in the back of my stash . In the when you run out of projects , project pile .

I started on her in March . And listen she was a chatty right out of the gate. I knew she and I were going to get along just fine . The first thing she told me was her full name . “Agnes Lilian Beuford “

Queen Agnes was very excited about her new look and new life . But the journey there wasn’t easy . Lots of back and forth on what new dress she wanted to wear . So we tried on one dress and we both loved it and then the next day she had an allergic reaction . She had big old black spots all over her doors . I had no idea she had sensitive skin . It was scarred . So we had to Start all over and look for a new dress and a way to make her new and old scars work with her new look.

I asked her a question one day that eventually inspired her new dress . I asked her “ Queen Agnes when in your long life did you feel the most beautiful?”
She replied “ When I was in my teens , I was living in this beautiful brownstone in New York . Every Sunday the missus of the house would host her whole family for dinner after church . That morning She would go to down the block to the local market and pick two bouquets of seasonal flowers . Sometimes lilies , peonies, roses , daisies , and so much more . She would fill 2 vases and flank them on either end of me . Then her cook would lay the most beautiful spread of food in between . The smells were just delectable. The family would arrive and just surround me with love and laughter as they filled their plates and their hearts . I long for those days again .”

I said “Queen Agnes . We are gonna paint on you with the most beautiful flowers that will never die , all the flowers . And someone will fall in love with you and surround you with that love and life again . “

She smiled and then said “ Oh I can’t even imagine. It has been almost 30 years since I last saw flowers , heard laughter , and felt loved .”

And today that happened. Someone fell in love with Queen Agnes . Soon she will be home again surrounded by love and life . Thank you to Mandy Gooch she is the proud owner of the stunning Queen Agnes .

Thank you all for giving Queen Agnes love . She is proof that no matter where you are in life and how bad things are , it’s never too late for a new life . One where all the good is restored and our scars become the most beautiful thing about us . @topfans

Although this isn’t the original, it is however a beautiful artist study . She has some wear from
Her life traveled . I found her frameless .. so I built a frame out of 2 antique frames . Then added the details . The details are fragments from past furniture projects . Princess Sophie looks stunning in her new frame . A perfect example of how we can just pull from the rubble of our life and create something beautiful from it .

Thank you all so much for the kind words about my parlour . It means so much to me that yall enjoy the same beautiful things I do . I put so much more thought and time into this collection than any other have done . This collection is my most personal one as I fell it truly 100% reflects my personal style . I wanted it to feel like you stepped into my HOME .

So many beautiful things have already found new since have re-opened . Again I thank you for your love and support . I couldn’t do this without you all . ❤️

Just wanted to give y’all an update on all things happening with the parlour .. but before I do I feel I need to share how i got to this place . This is a doozy , but it’s real , and i feel like i should share the good and bad of running a small business mixed in with real life ! Especially when you serve and are every single role in your business.

It all started back in January when my husband went on a work trip for 3 weeks and then we hit a snow storm , I had a restock planned but my loading helper was gone and my junking truck was out of commission. So I said ok I will shoot for March 1st. Meanwhile an opportunity to participate in costarters at The Co. presented itself to me . It’s a 12 week course that helps small businesses do ground work and build a foundation to start a business. I was gonna participate a year ago but backed out due to having a knee replacement. That course started in February. I have been at a long pit stop with my business and what I want to do with it next for a few years now . It’s all tied to us finding our last house before I move foward with any new investments . But that hasn’t happened yet after 3 years of looking . It has had me in a total state of pause , stuck , and frozen within every aspect of my life .

Then while my husband was out of town and I was all snowed in and contemplating taking costarters and then boom I was revisited by the ghost of an amazing home we tried to buy last year . She came back on the market and at the price we felt she should have been . It stirred up all the emotions again of finally getting out of this state of being frozen . This was all around the time while I was painting the swan dresser . It was a white house with blue shutters. Just like Noah built for Allie and like my sweet Tony wants to give to me . . So I painted my feelings all over that piece . Then I went back to look at her one more time ……

I loved her , I wanted her . But it didn’t work out . No going back . That house wasn’t the one . And Honestly it sent me into a negative place . I am a very naturally optimistic person , I have survived and made it through so many hardships. But i was lost emotionally. I was mad at myself for being so hung up on getting to my last house . I mean I am not in bad place . I have a decent home . It’s not ideal . But with the housing market like it is right now . So many wish they had what I have . I have to get over this yearning it was controlling me keeping me mentally and emotionally stuck . I had to do some big digging , healing , crying , and acceptance . But I made it thru that time and I am in a better place with it . But Still healing and hoping and having lots of faith.

So When that chapter closed on that house . I decided I am not gonna let this process keep me frozen any longer .
Phase one of getting unstuck I decided to participate in costarters hoping to discover what it is I want to do next with my business and get myself out of this locked state mentally . It was great . But it was hard . Sometimes I left the class feeling excited and inspired and sometimes I left feeling confused and down about it . But I made it . By the end I had an idea of what I wanted to do one day . But it was not exactly the route I had in mind when I started the course . Here I am in this photo on pitch night the finale of costarters back in April with my little table of parlour things ready to do a 3 minute pitch on how the parlour started and my why , and where I want to take it one day . It was an emotional night and time for me .

So I left pitch night with and idea of what I wanted to do . And there have been some new opportunities presented to me since . I will share more about my pitch night and those opportunities in another post . Cause even if you made it this far your probably couldn’t finish all that 😂 . It’s deep and a lot!

So I decided I was gonna go for it in my business bigger than ever and do a big reset and rebrand in May . But so many personal life factors kept getting in the way , creating roadblocks . I closed the parlour down temporarily first of May thinking it will only be a week of down time . But it has turned into a month . Last week I finally thought I could get it back opened by the first . But life said no . My daughter had her lease on her home not renewed and she too needs to find a home in this crazy market . So the last 2 weeks we have been moving her in . I only have 2 bedrooms. So I had to completely clean out the grandbaby sleepover room and get it ready for her and her two little we**ie dogs . Then boom I got sick with the crud and then the crud turned into a bronchial infection. I finally went to the doctor about it yesterday. The doctor has me on sit and rest for at least 24 hours . I was like has she seen the mess my house is with boxes everywhere??? Does she know that my studio for my business also flooded last week and I need to clean that up . Oh and my son broke is hand a week ago and needs help with small things and his girls… and may need surgery . Oh and Never mind the wishy washy marketplace shoppers i am dealing with trying to sell some Stuff to free up space . Oh and my little parlour store is closed and upside down . 🙃

So I am taking a few days this weekend to rest and reset like the doctor ordered so that I can be back at it next week . I feel a little better today . So I am struggling to sit . Also it’s my daughter’s birthday today and I really want to make her a dinner tonight as well . But that is all I am Gonna do tonight . Swear doctor ! I will be still after that lol . But mom has to do that . It’s my baby child’s 24th birthday!

Thank you for being patient with me and waiting to see alll the things I have been working on . Including Miss Agnes . Another story in itself . Lol . She is ready for her debut photo shoot as soon as I can get up there . But first I need to rest and mentally reset from this crazy month !

Doing a big Reset and restoration isn’t for
The faint of heart… there are always setbacks and
Casualties along the way . There have been so many in the last week . Then this happened today . I bumped into putting some touches on Queen Agnes . It was one of my favorite pieces and a last minute pick up That really was gonna set my front focal display off. With that said the parlour is still closed. Please don’t enter the room as it is a mess . Even with the heavy screen blocking the door and a sign saying closed multiple people a day are just entering the chaos! I promise y’all it will be worth it . Thank you for your patience!

Wow this ride with Queen Agnes has been a long wild one . I got so frustrated at the process that I had to take a step back for a week . Restoration isn’t for the faint of heart . There are always bumps in the road . In this case a really long detour to a totally different destination than planned . But woohoo I am finally in the finishing phase and she will arrive at the parlour next week along with her reveal photos! Agnes wanted me to apologize for being such a fuss and taking so long to find the right new look for this chapter of her life . She said she has never felt more beautiful and truly her most authentic self . The wait will be worth it !

Yalll , Queen Agnes wanted me to apologize on her behalf, for being a much more difficult lady to dress than usual. She feels bad that all this fuss to get her pretty has been a much longer drawn out challenge than it should have been . We finally both agreed upon a new dress . We put it on late one night went to bed and woke up to a large dark spot that grew overnight . And we just can’t seem to get rid of . We tried all the tricks . Sanding isn’t an option really because the veneer is on its last leg with no room to sand . But I didn’t want to give up that wood grain without a fight . I worked by butt off to get it there . So I hand sanded gently to see as a last resort . If I am gonna have to paint her I might as well go down knowing I gave it my all . Well it made it worst . So now I have regrouped on what she is gonna wear, but still showing of her beautiful skin ! So bear with us . It will be worth it! I am not gonna have to paint her . I have a plan ! But who knows just like in life maybe this was the lords plan after all . Queen Agnes and I shall see you soon with her new dress fit for a queen !

“If you’re a bird , I am a bird . “ Noah Calhoun - The Notebook

When Noah said this to Allie , he was expressing to her his simple but powerful love for her . He would go wherever she went , and become whatever she became.

I bought this piece from the RIFA Auction Group a few months back . I had a complete vision for her . I wanted to paint dark and moody love birds . Love isn’t always bright and happy . It’s full of many storms and moods and unexpected paths . . So that was my inspiration for starting this piece . I finally sat down to work on her in January when we had the big freeze for a week . My husband had just left for a big work trip for a few weeks . So for the first time in my adult life I was alone , well I did have my sweet boy Scooter . All the kids grown . Wow . This was a first . So I decided start this piece . The whole time I was painting it I was reflecting on my life particularly my marriage and our home . And all the homes we have owned together.

You see I married a “Noah” in 1995. He has spent his whole life being my “Bird”. In all my business ventures , crazy ideas , raising kids and weathering all life’s storms that came our way together . A few years ago when the kids moved out . We sold our big family home . Since then we have been searching for a home that I have dreamed of since we married . A big old historical home with charm and a big yard I could garden in and live my grandmother fantasy life . We tried to buy one in august of last year that fit the bill exactly . It was literally my dream house . With the big white porches and blue shutters overlooking the .. well you get it . It was the notebook house but in Tennessee . But sadly it didn’t work out .

In the middle of painting this dresser a few days in that house popped back up as possibility again . Stirring up my soul and so many emotions from the last time we tried to buy her . As I continued to work on the dresser over the next couple weeks I kept thinking about home and what it means and how my “Noah “ AKA Tony would move heaven and earth to get me that house or any dream house . It made me love him even more .

A week or so later as I was putting the topcoat on this piece and Tony finally back home . I got a call from my realtor solidifying that this home was not the one and it was time to move one . I had to let her go. The hunt was back on . I don’t know where we will end up but as long as I am with my Tony . Then I am home . Together we can weather the storms of life and wait for what is coming in from the horizon… together. I am his Bird and he is mine .
