On Sunday, Lloyd Richmond, the former choir director of Zoar Baptist Church, returned to direct the singing at an event celebrating his upcoming 103rd birthday on Saturday.

Hopkins said she and Egnor took a class themed around shattering myths about Asia and, upon completing it, received a small grant for educational purposes.
For Tuesday’s event, which began at the start of the school day, Hopkins said they invited Marshall University faculty to come and take part, as well as two women whose husbands work for Japanese companies operating in the United States.
The event began with a tea ceremony, through which the students maintained a respectful silence.

SPHS honors class of 2020
Horns blared and cars circled the building at South Point High School on Monday, as the district turned on the field lights for 20 minutes and 20 seconds to honor this year's senior class.
Similar displays took place at high schools across the county, as communities offered their support to the those whose senior year was cut short by closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Olive Hill WWII vet presented with French Legion of Honor
Jack Baker, 98, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, was drafted into service during World War II, taking part in the Normandy landing and every major European battle as part of the U.S. First Army. On Wednesday, Baker, who among the first allied troops to enter liberated Paris, was thanked by the French government when he was presented with that nation's Legion of Honor at a ceremony at the old Olive Hill High School.

Chesapeake Elementary - Read Across America
Schools across the country are celebrating Read Across America week, in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.
At Chesapeake Elementary School on Friday, students who signed and return a pledge to read for at least 15 minutes every night were invited on stage to duct tape principal Trisha Harris to the wall in the gymnasium.
