FITZGERALDS “Historic” Nightclub?

This year we are forever thankful for our community, who indulged our interest in the history of this old club, sent us un-ending personal stories and newspaper articles about FITZGERALDS through the years, and who gave us the downright audacity to submit a Preliminary Application to the State of Illinois Historic Preservation Agency to make FITZGERALDS, officially, what we all already know in our hearts; An Historic Landmark.

After months of collecting data and crossing our fingers, we got the response we were hoping and dreaming: “the opinion of the National Register staff is positive for listing” (in the National Historic Registry).

We want to be clear; this is not a done-deal. While this state level ‘green light’ is a rather significant affirmation, we have a couple more steps to go. Right now, we are working with a Historic Consultant, who will complete the full application that we’ll submit for review at the Federal level. During mid-2024, there will be a Federal vote, that we will be present for.

We know what some of you might be thinking; why are these nutballs sharing this now, and not when it’s “official”?

We believe that we would never have gotten to this point without the support of all o’ y’all; holding us up when we need it, and pushing us to stretch the limits of creativity and devotion to this little roadhouse we all love so much. Friends; you deserve to be part of this journey and this new and exciting next era of FITZGERALDS. We hope you will hold us accountable, ask us how it’s going and give us high-fives along the way! We promise to give updates when we have them.

Thank you for inspiring us to take this place one step closer to ensuring that our families, your families, and the generations to come can experience FITZGERALDS exactly the way it is….FOREVER!
