Holy Mackeral! Now THAT was a good time!!

Thank you all that came out to our 10-Year bash last night and experienced the live re-creation of the ‘Love Coffin’ album with the indominable Sir Deja Doog (a simple pig) joined by Devon Ashley (drums), Jesse Whitman (bass), Joe Fawcett (violin), Josh Silbert(sax), Mina Keohane (vox), Hannah Hadley (vox), Nick Vote (guitar), and Alex (guitar, keys, etc) … and with puppets by Lily Tade and with the puppeteering support of Colin Oakley❤️‍🔥

It was certainly a family affair, with unmeasurable support from our Postal staff and friends.

CHEERS TO 10 YEARS!!! 🥂🥂🥂 we are excited for what the next decade has in store ❣️

Today is the DAY!!!!! Postal turns 10 and we celebrate with an epic live re-creation of the first album ever recorded here - Sir Deja Doog’s ‘Love Coffin’ - with an all-star cast of Indianapolis LEGENDS and complete with handcrafted puppets. Check out our story for the rehearsal magic!

Pretty often, someone comes to Postal for the first time and asks, “Did you have to change anything to make the post office into a recording studio?”

The short answer is always: “Everything.”

The medium answer is “See that yellow brick there? That is all that stayed the same.”

And then there is the long answer, which can vary by the day.

No longer an empty post office, Postal Records, which offers analog recording, celebrates 10 years this month with a party.

The week that Postal brought in the sand to cover the raised floor of the studio in 2014 was the coldest that Alex can remember. -10 to -20 for weeks on end.

A 22-ton triaxle dump truck was brought in, but it was so cold that the hydraulic lines on the truck froze, and the sand had to be dumped outside the studio door, instead thrown in by the truck.

Over the course of just ONE FREEZING DAY, Alex, Tyler and Alex’s dad Dale moved 22 tons of sand by wheelbarrow (yes, wheelbarrow) to pack that floor.

These guys always have and always will put everything they have into Postal.

As you can see, the exterior hasn’t changed much, but the interior has been through quite a transformation 👏

We had an inspiring visit the other day with a determined 14-year old from , who came to nerd on music production with Tyler and learn maneuver a studio tour via wheelchair as a part of his recreational therapy.

One of the most special studio moments to witness is when a songwriter hears their music come alive with a string quartet.

We were able to do just that today with songwriter Zach Burton. Arrangements by Nick Vote and Alex Kercheval were candy on the ears.

Thank you Kathy for coordinating the quartet for this artist. It took months, but we did it!

Sometimes an artist walks through our doors and wants to do something BIG. They may have a treasure trove of songs that they have been playing solo for many years and never recorded, never heard in full-bloom.

Such was the story of Molly Milton]. She and her guitar had been performing these songs for many years in the quiet of her home or on little stages, and she came to us and asked us to help her flush them out, develop them, and connect her with Indy’s top musicians to play on them.

Almost a year later, and she just released her debut self-titled album, Molly Milton. With musicians such as , .t.oakley, , and and a string quartet arranged by Kathy Hershberger.

We love these kind of projects that invoke as much of our own creativity as the artist’s.

Postal is lucky to have so many incredible session musicians in our studio community. Let us know if you ever want violin, viola, cello, oboe, flute, bassoon, clarinet, double bass, gong … You name it, guaranteed we know someone who plays it!

Feels like the studio exploded this week as we are on day 3 of building out ’s record. Molly is a mother of four and has never recorded her music professionallly. With stellar musicians like and .t.oakley in our sphere, these songs have taken quite a turn since Molly brought them a few days ago.
