American Pro 2 in the πŸ“š.

I sometimes sit back and think, I was able to be a part of this huge event because one day, many years ago, I put myself out there and DM’d a female powerlifter I read an article about. I wanted to interview her for my podcast .

Her story was powerful, her name was Ana.

If you haven’t listened to it, you should (Episode 19). It still inspires me to this day. Her story makes the ascension of this epic production even more amazing.

I never thought I would be in the position I am today, being a part of behind the scenes towards helping nurture such a memorable meet like this.

My role is small but I love what I do. I am forever grateful for every second I get to be a part of this. Life is good.

I’ve been putting together my bucket list for the year, and it’s been a challenging yet exciting project.

It’s a list of things I want to start doing, stop doing, learn, experience, and achieve this year.

Are YOU creating a list for 2023, too?

Thinking about this has gotten me really fired up for this year and what I can do.

In terms of my own health & fitness, this year is about pushing through my self limiting beliefs and revisiting nutrition in a way that I've avoided for almost a decade.

Here are the top 2 things on my 2023 list:
1. Attend at least 130 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at (my kids outrank me as you see in the pic lol)
2. Drop my bodyfat down to a more athletic range.

β€”> I think Pride month can bring out the best, and worst in businesses. We can see who is supportive, not supportive and sometimes, just putting up a front .

My hopes are that any support we give, both personally and as a company, are not only with our actions as ally’s, but financial when possible.

If you would have told me 12 years ago when I first picked up a barbell that I would be where I am right now, I don't think I could have ever imagined it.

Fitness came into my life at an important time. I was recently divorced, in my late 20's and just had a newborn. I was desperately trying to build myself back up, I felt emotionally and physically lost. The gym felt like the right step.

I remember the first time I deadlifted, it was with an EZ Bar. You know, the one that you do bicep curls with? It's funny to imagine now but that's all my gym complex had and It didn't matter, I used it to deadlift anyways.

I was changing, my health was changing, I was getting stronger and I wanted more. That was the beginning of really loving how my body could perform.

It's been many years since that day and I've explored a lot in fitness. I've competed in bodybuilding, tried Crossfit, and even took a stab at Olympic lifting. But I always came back to powerlifting.

--> Competing in powerlifting has allowed me to connect with so many women who felt the same, who were looking for something to bring fire to their souls. Valuing their bodies not just for what they looked like, but for what they could DO. A concept that surprisingly still challenges female norms.

I’m honored to be a part of this group of women who are sharing their stories in powerlifting and are discussing what the future in female powerlifting holds.

➑️ Over the years I’ve trained people with various training mindset. And there’s one thing I realized.

β€”> How you view your training progress is important to how well you happily stick to the program and in turn, how well you do.

We can’t think of a bad lift or a bad training session as the worst thing ever.

Yes, those times suck.

It sucks dropping the weight 30lbs because today you feel weak af. It sucks that it still feels like a struggle though it should feel like light.

But will that day ruin your training?

Will that day determine if you hit that goal DL or not? Probably not.

We hear this over and over, but progress is not always linear.

Meaning the line we picture for success won’t always angle straight up, there’s a lot of up and down repeating patterns going on.

Progress takes steps back and forth. Sometimes the weight goes down to work on technique, sometimes it’s just life.

The WHY is usually short term. The WHAT you’ll do about it is much more important.

And here it is…

β€”-> Your satisfaction towards training is hugely impacted by just managing your expectations. As long as you are willing to move through and continue when training seems like a strike, the home runs waiting for you. πŸ€™πŸ½

Though visible tattoos have become more mainstream within the last decade or so, there are still prevailing social-cultural views of tattoos and the individual who wears them. Seen as deviant, criminalistic, or immoral, many of these perceptions are generational and biased towards little understanding of the tattoed community, especially amongst scholars.

Dr. Ayngelia β€œStar” Ara, who is a USPC Committee & International ref, an educator, eLearning designer, and technical writer, speaks about her book has been studying just that for the last couple of years. Her book, β€œThe Public Self and the Perceived Competence of Visibly Tattooed Women as Higher Education Administrators” gives a unique perspective to gender debates when discussing the appearance of visible tattoos and higher education women administrators.
