Civil Defense message for Sunday 08-25-2024 03:23 PM.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has canceled the Tropical Storm Warning for Hawaii Island.

The National Weather Service Flash Flood Warning and Wind Advisory remain in effect for Hawaii island.

As Hurricane Hone caused a significant amount of wind, rain, and flood damage, multiple roads remain closed, many utility lines and trees are down, and rivers and streams are at capacity. Please exercise caution as crews are on roadways removing debris and conducting repairs.

If your property sustained damage due to Hurricane Hone, please report damage to Civil Defense on their website athttps://survey123.arcgis.com/share/13ffdc337b544dc0a8665fcdf9e67957, or call Civil Defense at 808-935-0031.

Civil Defense Hurricane Hone update for Sunday 08-25-2024 01:03 PM.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center TROPICAL STORM WARNING remains in effect for Hawaii Island.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center forecasts wet and windy weather conditions to remain through today but decrease in intensity sometime later this afternoon and into the night.

Due to impact from Hurricane Hone, please be advised that;

Highway 11 in Ka`u District between Whittington Park and Punalulu`u remains closed due to roadway flooding.

The Ka`u Gym in Pahala and Na`alehu Commuity Center in Na`alehu are open to support the above road closure.

All other public shelters that were opened yesterday to provide a safe place from Hurricane Hone will close as of 12 noon today.

Hele On Bus routes that were suspended for the weekend will resume operations tomorrow, Monday morning.

The Department of Education confirms DOE schools will be open Monday morning. If your child attends a charter or private school, please check with school administration on opening status.

Hurricane Hone caused wide-spread wind, rain, or flood damage across Hawaii Island. If you sustained damage to your property due to Hurricane Hone, please report damages online on the Civil Defense website at https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/13ffdc337b544dc0a8665fcdf9e67957 or call Civil Defense at 808-935-0031.

This is a Civil Defense message for Tuesday 07-18-2023 05:04 PM.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued a TROPICAL STORM WARNING for Hawaii Island.

TROPICAL STORM force winds (39-73mph) are expected within the next few hours.

As part of the Tropical Storm Warning, the following warnings and advisories have been issued:
- A High Surf Warning for dangerous surf on north, east and south shores from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Kau.
- A Flood Watch for the entire Island of Hawaii.
Due to the Tropical Storm Warning, please be advised:

Roadways may close without notice.
Do not cross fast flowing water on foot or in a vehicle, Turn Around Don't Drown.
Large dangerous surf is life threatening, stay away from the shoreline and beaches.
Strong winds will blow down trees and loose objects, be aware of downed utility lines.
Seek shelter and stay off the roadways until conditions subside.
You will be informed as conditions change.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued a TROPICAL STORM WARNING for Hawaii Island.

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING is issued when tropical storm force winds (39-73mph) are expected within the next 36 hours.

As part of the Tropical Storm Warning, the following warnings and advisories have been issued:
- High Surf Warning for the northeast shoreline from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Kau for rising surf Tuesday night.
- Flood Watch for the entire island beginning Tuesday night.

Due to the Tropical Storm Warning, please be advised:

All pre-landfall preparations should be completed before onset of high surf, wind, and rain
Boat owners and those with shoreline property should complete securement by Tuesday night.
Prepare your property for heavy rains and flooding
Take this time to secure loose outdoor items prior to the onset of winds
You will be informed as conditions change

This is a Tropical Cyclone Information Statement for Sunday, July 16 at 12 noon.

The National Hurricane Center has downgraded Hurricane Calvin to a Tropical Storm. Tropical Storm Calvin is located in the East Pacific Basin and will cross into the Central Pacific today.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts Hawaii Island to be in the path of Tropical Storm Calvin. The Hurricane Center is forecasting to issue a Tropical Storm Watch for the Island of Hawaii within the next 24 hours.

The effects of a tropical storm can span hundreds of miles from its center. Tropical storm effects include high surf, high winds, and flooding rains.

As the Hurricane Center and Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency continue to monitor Tropical Storm Calvin, we encourage you to take the time now to review your family emergency plan and make sure your emergency kit and supplies are prepared and ready; should this storm impact Hawaii Island.

This is a Distant Earthquake Information message for Saturday, July 15 at 9 PM.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) reports an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 occurred at approximately 8:48 PM HST in the Alaska Peninsula.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT to the Island and State of Hawaii.
