Red Flag in effect until 6pm tonight!
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for North and South Kohala, North Kona, Ka`u Districts, and parts of Puna District through 6 PM today.
A Red Flag Warning means that:
• Critical conditions of strong, gusty trade winds, dry fuel, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures could produce extreme fire behavior.
• Any fires that develop will likely rapidly spread and be difficult to control.
Due to the Red Flag Warning, the following Emergency Rules are implemented for today from 10 AM to 6 PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2024:
1 All outdoor burning is banned in North and South Kohala, North Kona, Ka`u Districts, and parts of Puna District.
2 All outdoor open flames are banned in North and South Kohala, North Kona, Ka`u Districts, and parts of Puna District.
3 All “hot work” is banned; hot work includes but is not limited to grinding, welding, flame cutting, or other fire or spark-producing operations.
4 The Director of Parks & Recreation is authorized to extend Rules 1 and 2 in County park facilities.
Please Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass after a trip. Park vehicles in areas that are paved or trimmed and cleared.
