H/Ola, amigos/amigas! Tonight's theme was a bit of everything as this show is intended to be somewhat timeless...what the industry folks call an evergreen. It seemed like about time, as I've not done a real evergreen show in ages. And, of course, when I try to do one, I usually screw up and throw in some soon-to-be-belated time and/or seasonal reference. With the exception of a couple of beach songs (which could be for any time of year, really), it's fairly generic yet representative of the show.

Oh, those of you who pay close attention and hang on my every incorrect word will enjoy my goof late in the show...guess I was getting tired! I'd intended to play Steve and Shawn Colvin doing You're Still Gone and instead grabbed Steve and Lucinda doing You're Still Here. Funny. Heck, it's Tuesday so we'll just call it a Twofer Tuesday special with both of those tracks back-to-back! They're all great!

Of course, you should know that the next three editions of Gestalt of the Earth will be classics from the archives, thoughtfully hand selected by yours truly, while the missus and I take an Iberian siesta. Hello. I hope you had a Happy Independence Day and hope it's not our last! I had a great day today. Son Mack Clash is just back from his many (5-6) weeks in Barranquilla, Colombia, where he was studying engineering and soaking up some South American culture.

This afternoon, he and I went to his place of part-time employment, the Museum of Life & Science in Durham, for lunch at the locavore café there, then did everything...tadpoles, bears, wolves, lemurs, turtles, tortoises, snakes, birds, spiders, butterflies and other bugs. Oh, and dinosaurs, of course. And lots of lunar artifacts (Moon rock! Enos's capsule! Etcetera!). If anyone wants to join me for a visit sometime, just holler!

So tonight's show was more or less a musical reflection on some small portion of the highlights of our visit. And, if I do say so myself, it's a real nice mix of songs for some laid back sun and fun which you can enjoy for the next two hot weeks, until 23 July 2023, at https://whupfm.org/episode/gestalt-of-the-earth-7-9-24.

You might be surprised that there are not a lot of lemur songs, at least not non-kiddie ones, and even the one I found, Lemur by This Town Needs Guns, didn't seem to manage to get the word lemur in the song. Oh well. And, well, I ended the show on a bit of a downer with Phranc's The Ballad of Lucy + Ted, and it's about some unjustly executed polar bears at the Brooklyn Zoo...and, no, the Museum has no polar bears, but it's such a devastatingly good, sad song.

Happy June! I've had a busy few weeks, including lots of guests in the studio the last couple of shows. But now it's back to normal, whatever that may be, with just you and me. So tonight's show was kind of calm and moodily meandering. In the spirit of the show, we have some fine representation of music from here and there, including possibly the world premiere of the hot, new number from LOCO DOMINGO: "Backcountry Contessa." It's a delightful, trance-inducing track I've listened to over and over since Loco Domingo sent it to me! Plus, teenaged Jodie Foster once again proving she excels at everything with a lovely French chanson called "Je T'Attends Depuis La Nuit Des Temps" ("I've Been Waiting For You Since The Dawn Of Time").

☢ John Williams was the composer of the super long, calypso-y Gilligan's Island pilot theme.

☢ The GoGo's smash hit Vacation was originally a short Textones song, written by GoGo's and Textones' bassist Kathy Valentine. Fellow GoGo's Charlotte Caffey, Jane Weidlin and Kathy added to the song to make it a top 10 hit!

☢ "Shark On The Beach," by NC's first all-female punk band, The Mutettes, is always a good quick summer song (written and sung by Lila Shaara). It's the B side of their single "Leatherette Heart." Unfortunately, this is their only recording. The two songs were produced by Mitch Easter and recorded at his Drive In Studio (in its pre-Kernersville days). The original drummer, not on this record, was amazing artist Sue Sneddon. When not painting, Sue would often play percussion with Lise Uyanik & The Mobile CIty Band. Sue died from cancer in January 2022 at the age of 68.

Tonight we had a fun twist to the usual thematic Gestalt of the Earth show. By "we," I mean the royal me, of course, and my special guests: Mack Clash and, off-mic, Gailsie Clash. The first hour, we worked through some of my leftover Eurovision thoughts. Then, on the spot,Mack Clash developed a stump-the-DJ kind of game which we decided to call "Clashwords!" In this game, Mack Clash offers a crossword clue and yours truly had to spontaneously find songs that had something to do with the clue and/or, ideally, the answer! Initially I was perhaps a bit out of my comfort zone, but then we all got into it and had a great time. (Also, many songs today have dirty words in 'em!) Let me know what you think of the game...maybe this will make us our millions! Thanks to Mack Clash for the assist! And we're back again! That was a fast break. It's April, but we're still celebrating March Madness...with our own Triangle Team, and now "America's Team," NC State University's Wolfpack! Both the men's and women's teams are in the Final Four and we're celebrating those fantastic accomplishments (and hopefully not jinxing 'em!) with a show mostly about wolves and howling and a dribble of basketball to tip things off.
