A few weeks before my third son was born, my friend took some updated headshots for me. I was fresh off a photoshoot at a construction site. Super pregnant. Covered in red clay.

But we'd scheduled and rescheduled these photos. It was time to move forward.

I was frantic upon my arrival. I'd put my makeup on in the car and taken the curlers out of my hair at stoplights along the way. They littered the floorboard like confetti.

I was talking a mile a minute, heart pounding, feeling both exhausted and jittery. Like this whole thing had been a huge mistake. What was I thinking, investing in headshots so far along in my pregnancy? After climbing dirty dunes in Fountain Inn?

How WEIRD is my job?

And then, Casey spoke to me with a calm, reassuring voice. She made me feel relaxed. For the next hour, she had everything under control. I look back on these photos and remember that crazy day, but mostly, I remember how she made me feel.

Confident. Secure. Put together.

Extraordinary things happen in business when you make your customer feel seen and understood.

What you do matters. But, what matters more is how you make people feel.

"Everybody has a story."

This notion was drilled into us in my journalism master's program. It doesn't matter how boring your interview candidate thinks they are. Everyone has something interesting about them. A spark that ignited a great calling or pursuit.

As a journalist, I learned it was not only my job to discover and tell that story, but to also make my interviewee comfortable enough in my presence to encourage them to share.
In fact, a lot of people I interview now, on the marketing side of things, tear up when they talk about their life and business. It often strikes a chord, because their business is so much a part of who they are as a person.

These stories are what your clients want to see and know about. They want to know the WHY behind what you do. And what better way to share that story than by video?

These "about my business" videos are my favorite to put together because a. they're evergreen and can live on the home page of your website forever and b. they help business owners remember their "why" and perhaps, even discover something about the purpose behind their business they didn't know was there.
