This week's paper features the smiling face of little Daisy Hardy along with a story about her months long battle with cancer after a tumor was found on her liver at just four months old. Despite everything she's already had to endure as she just wrapped up her second round of chemo, little Daisy remains a beam of light not only for her family but all the doctors, nurses and people who get to be around her.

"It all happened so fast. As a parent you can never prepare yourself to see your child in a hospital crib with a bunch of wires attached to them. All I wanted to do was hold her and cry but I was scared I would hurt her" said mom Kristen Hardy. "I am very hopeful that chemo is working, we can already see her belly shrinking. She is such a strong little girl."

In honor Autism Awareness Month in April, this week's paper features a story on Grafton fourth grader Owen Pankow. While sharing his story, his mom Jessica couldn't help but mention how loved her 10-year-old boy is both at school and in the community. Owen was diagnosed with autism at 3 years old and his progress since has come a long way, thanks in part to early recognition and the inclusiveness and procedures put in place to help him ease into each new part of his life.

"There's a saying on a lot of T-shirts and stickers - 'it takes a special person to hear what a kid cannot say.' It's very true and particular with Owen because he does have different set of communication," said Jessica. "We're so thankful for the ones in his life who hear him."
