With a very heavy heart, I must share the sad news that Oscar Norris (W4OXH), the oldest ham radio operator in the U.S., passed away on July 8, 2024, at the age of 106.

Oscar was not just a remarkable operator but also a guiding light in the ham radio community. His wisdom, passion, and incredible longevity in the hobby were an inspiration to us all. Personally, I owe a great deal to Oscar—his mentorship was instrumental in my journey to becoming a ham radio operator. His stories and knowledge will be greatly missed.

In remembering Oscar, let’s celebrate his incredible life and the profound impact he had on so many of us. May his legacy continue to inspire and his memory live on through every QSO we make. Rest in peace, Oscar. 🙏

Exciting news! I'm thrilled to announce that I earned my Gold Hunter certificate from Parks on the Air on March 5, 2024!!! I submitted proof of working 30 unique reference areas in the Parks on the Air program. It's been an incredible journey exploring these beautiful parks and making meaningful connections along the way. Here's to many more adventures in the great outdoors!

Did an (brief) POTA activation this afternoon from Crowder’s Mountain State Park (K-2726). In about 20 minutes we made 13 confirmed QSOs with 3 confirmed park-to-park QSOs. The furthest QSO was up in Montreal, Canada. I’m getting more and more confident and comfortable with being on HF/POTA, plus I had a great time. 73!!!

Exciting News Alert!

Hey everyone, I'm thrilled to share that I passed my General Class exam on January 13, 2024, and officially received my General ticket! It's been an incredible journey filled with late-night study sessions, practice exams, and lots of determination, but it was all worth it in the end.

I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported me along the way, whether it was with study tips, encouragement, or simply lending an ear when I needed to talk through a tough concept. Your support means the world to me, and I couldn't have done it without you!

Now that I have my General ticket, I'm excited to explore new bands, experiment with different modes, and continue honing my skills as an amateur radio operator. Here's to the next chapter of this amazing journey! 73 de KO4TJP
