~This Is Amazing~
I took a call yesterday saying this two story houseboat has been leaning for some time. The owner has unfortunately passed away. The house on Taylor Ave that the steps lead to has been condemned, so it's not like the local government wasn't aware.
I know the previous time a houseboat sank at the east west connector bridge, it cost the local taxpayers $10,000 to be brought to the surface and removed. This one is twice as big and it across from the Frankfort Boat Club.
Will this be here all winter? What will happen to it when we get the rising river over the late Winter and Spring?
I wonder if we will be on the hook for this one too?

These things are so fun.
My favorite part is when it comes into focus, you can move your head left and right and it moves. You can also reach out and "touch" with your finger. It's like you poke through it.

The State Journal has ended the Mayoral campaign poll with Mayor Layne Wilkerson winning it. Now they have the Kentucky House 57th District poll up.
These polls are unscientific to say the least, its really who looks at the State Journal and then go find the poll and participate. Basically the campaigns "get out the vote" on these polls.
Research the two candidates and if you desire, then vote for your choice.

~Latest Info on the Broadway Bridge Removal Process~

The contractor (joint venture of Haydon Bridge Company and C. J. Mahan Construction Company) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) held a pre-construction meeting on Friday, October 4th, at the project site. The following information was shared:

Last week, the contractor installed fencing around the project site. See the attached image.

Also, last week, the contractor conducted a required sonar sounding of the river bottom under the Broadway Bridge to establish a "before" condition of the river bottom.

The contractor has developed the required demolition plan and KYTC approval is anticipated early this week.

The Frankfort Plant Board plans to complete decommissioning the waterline going across the bridge by mid-week.

The contractor plans to begin demolition work on Thursday this week. They will begin sawing and removing the concrete deck on Span 4 (over the river) and then remove the steel girders. The objective is to open the river to navigation at Span 4 by November 4th. They will then proceed in removing the concrete deck and steel girders from Spans 1-3 (Riverview Park out to Span 4). The objective is to remove these three spans and open the Riverview Park trail before the December holidays.

The contractor will then pause demolition work over the winter and spring. They plan to resume work in the late spring/early summer timeframe to demolish Span 5 (truss) and Span 6 (from truss to Taylor Avenue). They anticipate all work being completed by September 1, 2025.

Please keep in mind that river flooding may, at any time, impact the work schedule.

Singing Bridge - In talking with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), they are scheduling testing to better determine the bridge's structural inadequacies. This testing will involve both attaching strain gauges as well as controlled, limited loading. KYTC again confirmed that there will not be any vehicular or pedestrian use of the bridge for the foreseeable future. We are waiting to hear from USDOT on our nearly $10 million grant application for this bridge.

Broadway Bridge - City staff is meeting with the demolition contractor on Thursday at Riverview Park. The contractor (joint venture of Haydon Bridge Company and C. J. Mahan Construction Company) has scheduled this week the installation of safety fencing near the bridge to keep pedestrians out of the bridge area. Prior to actual work beginning work, a demolition plan has to be approved. The contractor has until November 4th to remove Span 4 over the river to open the river to navigation.

Capital Avenue Bridge - KYTC conducted their normal inspection on July 25, 2024. This bridge rated a "5" on a scale of 1-9. This rating puts the bridge in a "fair" condition.

Why does liberal media constantly talk about "non-educated" men and women? CNN has talked about that all morning.
Its like they are looking down on those of us with only a high school education.
Last I checked, I can spell, add, maintain a bank account, run numerous businesses, work 30 years for state government, employ people, and not get lost driving to the store.
It's the "non-educated" man and woman that keeps this country running and its time for the liberal media and elites to stop looking down on us.
