As a young man Troy Sneed always had a love for music, and as a member of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Gospel Choir, he was presented with his first opportunity to hone his musical talents in the industry, when the FAMU Gospel Choir Advisor, the late Prince J.D Olds, recognizing Troy’s leadership qualities and musical gifts offered him the position of Minister of Music. Troy served in that ca
pacity until 1992, after which he was offered and accepted the position of Assistant Minister of Music for the Georgia Mass Choir. During this season of growth, he worked, traveled with, and was mentored by renowned Reverend Milton Biggham, Executive Director of Savoy Records. For more than a decade, he toured worldwide with the award winning choir, appearing with Georgia Mass Choir in Penny Marshall’s movie and Disney production of “The Preacher’s Wife”, starring Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington. In the fall of 1998 a new course was sparked as Savoy recorded and Georgia Mass presented a 400 voice youth choir entitled “Youth for Christ” which was directed and produced by Troy. This audio and video recording, appropriately entitled “Higher” garnered the project a nomination for the 43rd Annual Grammy “Choir of the Year” Award. Troy Sneed, singer/songwriter/musician and now Grammy nominated producer had again proven he could succeed at another level of the music business. In 2003 Troy, along with his college sweetheart and wife, Emily began Emtro Gospel (later renamed Emtro Music Group), a collaboration of their first names, and a gospel recording label which has multiplied by leaps and bounds. Emtro Gospel boasts a phenomenal roster, which to date includes Alvin Darling, Bonafide Praisers, Bishop Bruce Parham, Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Jr & the Word and Worship Mass Choir, Youth for Christ, Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir and of course Troy Sneed, all garnering one or more Billboard’s Top Five Hot Gospel Songs, and/or Billboard Top Ten radio hits. In 2008, Emtro Gospel was ranked third among the gospel industry’s most outstanding labels, according to Billboard Radio and Records Year End Charts, and Troy was named as one of Billboard’s top three gospel producers for the second consecutive year (2007, 2008). The parents of four children (Troy, Jr, Evany, Trey, and Tyler), business partners, and best friends, Troy and Emily continue to seek and obey Christ in every endeavor of life, and God continues to open windows and pour out blessings. They have been able to see the vision given to them by God, for Emtro Music Group and in 2007 Troy joined with his son, Troy, Jr (affectionately known as TJ) to begin a second label entitled T-Sneed Records. Although a musician at heart, Troy is maintaining his position as a record executive. With his latest business decision coming as Emtro has co-partnered with New York Times bestselling author Brenda Jackson to distribute “Truly Everlasting”, a novel turned movie. Emily maintains the position of CFO within Emtro Music Group, while also serving as Troy’s Business Manager and personal assistant.
