Clay County Fire Rescue gave Baby Vianca a hero's welcome home!
Orange Park's John Salas has bagged sand before, so he's used to being cautious when tropical storms or hurricane warnings occur. He said his wife worries their garage will flood, so he always takes precautions. He filled 10 bags at the Fleming Island location at noon Saturday, more than two days before Debby is expected to sweep across North Florida. "Happy wife, happy life," he said with a smile.
During any school year, teachers spend an average of $600-$750 on classroom materials. To help ease that burden, the Clay Education Foundation founded Tools 4 Clay Schools to donate free supplies to teachers in Clay County District Schools.
“We open the store four times a year for teachers to ‘shop,’ and by that, I mean they pick up whatever they need for free,” said Carolyn Krall, President of the Clay Education Foundation.
The main shop is located at the Garber Automall in Green Cove Springs.
For returning teachers, it’s open at Garber on Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.

JACKSONVILLE — “Rights of a Father,” a film featuring a fictional court case set in Clay County filmed at the historic 1890 Clay County Courthouse, was premiered at the Ritz Theatre and Museum the evening of June 15, the night before Father’s Day.
The film’s premise: Raymond is overjoyed when he finds out his fiancé, Rose, is pregnant, but, learning that she is reconsidering the pregnancy, he sues her to carry the unborn baby to term to save his child’s life. Raymond is played by Greg Blue and Rose is played by Darcy Stinnette. The film’s bombshell unexpected ending left viewers stunned. The movie is slated for streaming services soon. Melrose — The Melrose Center is strategically located in the unincorporated town of Melrose, which is at the crossroads of four counties: Clay, Putnam, Bradford, and Alachua. At the health checkup fair on Friday, June 7, the restaurant’s dining hall welcomed patrons for free screenings for diabetes and cholesterol, plus access to a pediatrician and a general physician. The screenings were free regardless of insurance status.
