Men carry the body of an 8-year-old girl during a protest in Bamenda, Cameroon, Friday, November 13.
Schools and economic activity have shut down in Bamenda, an English-speaking city in western Cameroon, after police opened fire, killing a girl. Several hundred angry residents took to the streets protesting the killing, and armed separatists launched attacks on government forces, calling on the military to leave Bamenda.
Civilians shouted as Cameroonian troops shot into the air to stop the protests Saturday along the streets of Bamenda, capital of Cameroon's restive English-speaking Northwest region.
In a statement, signed by Cameroon’s police chief, Martin Mbarga Nguele, police were trying to immobilize a suspicious vehicle and a bullet mistakenly hit and killed 8-year-old Tataw Brandy.
Civilians marched with the girl's body, calling for justice. The police statement said separatist fighters infiltrated the protesting civilians.
Separatists have been fighting since 2017 to create a breakaway English-speaking state in the majority French-speaking country. The separatists complain of marginalization and discrimination by the French-speaking majority.
The United Nations says that the fighting has displaced more than 500,000 people and killed more than 3,000 civilians. voa

Crowds pelted each other with armloads of cow manure this weekend, as part of one village's local ritual to mark the end of Diwali, India's most important Hindu festival.
The Gorehabba festival begins with the afternoon collection of "ammunition" from cow-owning homes in the village, which lies on the border of the southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The manure is brought to the local temple on tractor trolleys, before a priest performs a blessing ritual.

"Infrastructure week!! I am so happy to say that it’s infrastructure week" President Biden mocks former President Trump who kept saying every week that he would pass an infrastructure bill in Congress to rebuild America's infrastructure for the 21st century. It became such a joke that for four years, people in Washington kept asking is this the real infrastructure week? Or is it next week? Until he left office, no bill was passed. Last Friday, Congress passed President Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. And so he addressed reporters on Saturday and took a jab at Trump. That's the context of the joke!!
This image shows the aftermath of an explosion at a petrol station in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, in which at least 92 people were killed, the vice president said. According to witnesses, the accident happened when a vehicle caught fire after a road accident, Friday, Nov. 5, 2021.
At least 92 people were killed late Friday in the capital of Sierra Leone when a fuel tanker exploded following a collision, the central morgue and local authorities said.
The government has not yet confirmed the death toll, but the manager of the central state morgue in Freetown said it had received 92 bodies following the explosion.
Victims included people who had flocked to collect fuel leaking from the ruptured vehicle, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, mayor of the port city, said in a post on Facebook.
"We've got so many casualties, burnt corpses," said Brima Bureh Sesay, head of the National Disaster Management Agency, in a video from the scene shared online. "It's a terrible, terrible accident."
Images shared widely online showed several badly burned victims lying on the streets as fire blazed through shops and houses nearby. Reuters was not able immediately to verify the images.
Aki-Sawyerr called the videos and photos "harrowing.”
The mayor said that the extent of the damage was not yet clear, adding that police were at the scene to assist disaster management officials. Voa
