CFPB Proposes Revamped RESPA Mortgage Servicing Rules

The proposed rules, which the Bureau foreshadowed in its Spring 2024 edition of Supervisory Highlights (discussed here), would relax some of those requirements and codify certain adjustments to the mortgage servicing rules made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the CFPB made temporary adjustments to the 2014 framework to allow borrowers to receive loss mitigation assistance without a comprehensive loan review.

Saudi Arabia's petro-dollar exit: A global finance paradigm shift

Significant financial upheaval is potentially ahead of the financial world as Saudi Arabia has decided not to renew its 80-year petro-dollar deal with the United States. The deal, which expired on Sunday 9 June, was a cornerstone of the United States global economic dominance.

Moscow stock exchange stops trading in dollars and euros

The Moscow stock exchange announced on Wednesday that it will stop trading dollars and euros from Thursday, June 13.

The announcement came on the same day the United States introduced a new package of sanctions against Russia.

The sanctions come as G7 leaders are preparing to gather soon in Italy for a summit where the top priorities will be boosting support for Ukraine and grinding down Russia’s war machine.

CFPB Proposes to Ban Medical Bills from Credit Reports

Rule would remove as much as $49 billion of medical debts that unjustly lowers credit scores for 15 million Americans

Today, the CFPB proposed a rule that would remove medical bills from most credit reports, increase privacy protections, help to increase credit scores and loan approvals, and prevent debt collectors from using the credit reporting system to coerce people to pay.

Mortgage Rates Barely Budge For 3rd Straight Day, But That Should Change Tomorrow

Today's mortgage rates were fairly close to yesterday's at the average lender for the 3rd business day in a row. Friday was the last day with any substantial movement when rates spiked following the upbeat jobs report. Since then, the average lender has only moved by 0.01% on each of the past 2 days.

The absence of movement made better sense yesterday. Rates are based on trading levels in the bond market and bonds ended the day very close to Friday's levels. It's a bit harder to reconcile today given that bonds did quite well--especially after the auction of 10yr Treasury notes at 1pm Eastern time.
