Can you relate? - lesson 43
ADHD Life Lessons I Wish someone told me after getting diagnosed, number 43 of 50. If you have ADHD you will often end up in situations you don’t want to be in, because you didn’t take enough time to make make the right decision. You rush into new relationships. You sign 12-month contracts. You don’t think before you commit and after a few weeks, things begin reveal their true nature and become a burden. On top of that, you often make decisions to please others instead of yourself, leaving you stuck in an unwanted reality.
This is when I had to learn about the impulsive side of ADHD; and the power of giving things time. I realized that my brain always wants to commit on new things right away. That novelty is stimulating and gives me dopamine and that I can start making more calculated, long-term decisions by never saying yes right away. I now, as a rule, always sleep on it, knowing anything worthwhile will still be there tomorrow and make the decision far away from anyone else so I don’t fall into the trap of people pleasing and if I can’t decide, the answer is no.
Lesson: Give your decisions time

ADHD Life Lessons I Wish someone told me after getting diagnosed, number 41 of 50
If you have ADHD, you will often build up new routines and systems with big excitment, only to end up feeling trapped and pinned down by them. Whether its the planner you bought 3 weeks ago that’s been helping you get stuff done, or running in the morning to help you stay fit, it’s like as soon as the third week approaches, your energy for that system vanishes. Its harder to get out of bed. You start dreading that activity. You feel incredibly unmotivated. And you wonder for how much longer you can keep this up.
This is when I had to learn about the power of embracing the pivot and why I should listen to my ADHD brain. I realized that my brain often needs novelty to get motivated and so shouldn’t be hard on myself when novelty fades but simply give myself permission to move on. I now, no longer feel bad when throwing away my new planner to try the new productivity system everyones talking about or when I skip my morning run and play football instead, because I know it’s what my brain needs, which has made my self-talk a lot more empowering and therefore my progress a lot more consistent.
Lesson 41: Embrace the pivot

Dr. Hallowell on renaming . What do you think?
Please tell me its not just me because I want to reduce the amount I order things but why do they always have to seem SO LIFE CHANGING 😠the dopamine hit when ive found something to order is no joke and then if I dont order it ill keep thinking about it until I do and then by the time ive ordered it I’ll have forgotten about it…
The narrator. I felt that 🤣🤣

As a person who is mostly a sock person, I do suffer from occasional wet spot-step and I internalize that feeling but definitely top 5 terrible things sensory-wise.
What’s your sock situation?

"Personifying My ADHD:
A Humorous Exploration"
Can you relate? In celebration of international womens day I wanted to show the strengths that women with ADHD often display - despite those often being overlooked and also despite our struggles!
these strenghts may also be shown in men with ADHD but as this video is a mix of evidence base and experience I can only speak from the point of view of a woman with ADHD. This is not meant to exclude anyone though. All love and positivity bcs yes our brains do come with their unique struggles but theres always another side of the coin - even when that might be hard to see. So our brains are also conductive for some great things despite struggling with things like daily living chores or basic needs.
