Why is it so hard to stay the course with New Year’s resolutions when there’s everything to gain? Here are five steps to help you stay on track from our In Good Health contributor . From her article “Going the Distance for Yourself.” (Link in bio):

STEP 1. Write down your goals. Be realistic, specific and prioritize them.
STEP 2. Break your overall goal into smaller ones that you can stick to and achieve
STEP 3. Add to your list of achievable, smaller goals.
STEP 4. Remind yourself why you’re doing this. Continuously. Keep your “why” top of mind.
STEP 5. Get out the pom poms. You must be your biggest cheerleader! Talk to yourself in a positive, uplifting way. “You can do it!” “You are doing it!” Banish those self-sabotaging thoughts!

New year, new good deeds: Thanks to the Darien location of for supporting the Darien High School chapter of throughout January. Completely DHS student run, Feeding 500 helps the homeless in our area and every Tuesday this month, Darien’s Granola Bar will donate 10% of their proceeds after 5pm to the group’s efforts. So, mark your calendars for this delicious philanthropy!

Shout out to and their efforts to bring together the community for their Annual Holiday Toy Store. The Toy Store helps ensure 2,000 children from lower-income families in our area experience the joy of the holiday season. It also allows parents to provide gifts to their children without compromising on essential expenses.

The joy we feel during the holiday season reduces cortisol levels (our stress hormone) and raises oxytocin levels (our happy hormone). More oxytocin equals less chronic stress. That being said, the holidays can also bring a decent wallop of stress (as we know!) …and the one thing we don’t want to do when we’re stressed is EAT! Presenting Stone Symphonies of Frazier Peters…one of America’s first “green architects.” Known for integrating his homes into their landscapes and building them with poured concrete and the natural fieldstones so abundant in Connecticut making them cooler in summer and warmer in winter, Frazier Peters left us with beauties like this Arrowhead Way gem and its gorgeous updates which keep his architectural renderings current while true to their lovely beginnings. My family has been making a Thanksgiving dish from these onions for generations. Never missed a holiday. Wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without them. This year, I looked everywhere. No one had them. Until... I went to ...They never disappoint. Grateful!

Pinkney Park in Rowayton is a great spot to spend a summer Sunday evening in a beautiful setting listening to fun music. These shows are free at Pinkney and family and dog friendly, plus food trucks and a beer cart. But it’s also bring your own if you choose. So you can set up a family picnic on the grass in this natural amphitheater. The summer music series switches between Pinkney and Bailey Beach every other summer Sunday.
