Hal Jay here. After watching what France and the Olympics did to ruin what the Last Supper stands for and means, I won’t watch anymore Olympics and I’ll never go back to France. To some it’s over reacting, to others it will garner support. I admit it’s my Christian beliefs is the reason for my thinking. There’s a lot of religions and some may disagree with me and that is perfectly ok. Let me hear from you. God Bless.

The Olympic Opening Ceremony was a blasphemous "take" on the "The Last Supper," with drag queens and trans-s*xual actors. Did you watch any of it? What did you think?

Further making the Olympics opening ceremonies the “gayest ever,” Parisian Olympics officials also featured an LGBTQ parody of the "Last Supper" along with a woke fashion show featuring gender-bending fashions and transgender models.

Ernie here… in the grumpy-old-man political mindfield….

In 1980, Ronald Reagan asked two simple questions to sum up his campaign: Are you better off now than you were four years ago? Do you feel more secure and confident about your family’s future now than you did then?

The answer, expressed on election day 1980, was a resounding "no!"

One of the biggest landslides in history. Despite Reagan having to deal with an obstinate opposition Congress, economically, the U.S. thrived under Reagan. The Soviet Union fell apart with his common-sense policy of peace through strength. No, it wasn’t Utopia, that’s for the next world. But eight years later, we were all better off… and we knew it.

Right now, people struggle to afford less and pay more for it. The borders are wide open; human trafficking and drugs pour in. The border patrol is reduced to little more than clerks at a hotel, checking in people who hold fake IDs. Law and order is now just a suggestion rather than the rule, and the party of the elites and the rich, ignored all economists who told them the “Inflation Reduction Act” would actually cause the worst inflation since the 1970s, with the result being... the worst inflation since the 1970s.

I don’t care who ends up as the Dem nominee—they have no plans to change over the next four years, what’s been happening in the U.S., they can't, they supported it.

So…are you better off now than you were four years ago?

If you’re honest, the answer is no. No matter what party you might support.

We’ve seen what doesn’t work—now, let’s implement what does.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ernie here....absolutely disgusted. Ten factual lies in 10 minutes... is that a new record for Mr Biden? He wants to reform the Supreme Court to "protect democracy?" Dems want a rubber-stamp court to guarantee they can do what they want and damn the constitutional restraints. (First move of despots...replace the court with cronies to give the air of legitimacy.)

Created 16 million new jobs? Lie. Those jobs already existed. They were people who'd been laid off or furloughed because of bad pandemic policies. They simply came back to work.

Yes, inflation is coming down....but prices aren't...they went up because of the inflation reduction act. Even Dem economists admit that little spending spree was a catalyst in driving inflation to 1970's level.

He got the border under control? Are you kidding?

Democracy is at stake. A focus-group tested phrase the Dems will beat to death ... it means nothing....and it's a lie. He said the country is bigger than one man....then why or how is democracy at stake?

Politicians make partisan speeches....they all do. At least, nowadays, they do. Go back and watch some presidents of the past....no matter the party, you'll find something you agree with.

Not anymore.

I didn't like what I saw tonight....and honestly, I was surprised....I thought he'd be more gracious, more transparent about what really happened. It's another example of the bubble of unreality that DC creates. Very little he said reflected what Americans are experiencing.

A missed opportunity to actually bring people together. But politicians just can't help themselves.

One positive: His support of the cancer moon-shot. I hope he succeeds. Imagine… A cure for cancer… Think how many families that would affect. That’s a bipartisan issue …maybe we need more of those.

Ernie here… in the Mungo Jerry Summertime mindfield…

Here come the Olympics! In Paris, Friday, the games will open! And the French, for the most part, are being snooty about it. They’re pretending not to be interested, and some are pooping in the Seine River to sabotage any water events and their participants. (I’ll bet the rowers know how to handle obstacles, so “Caddyshacking” the river isn’t going to work.) But, despite the feigned disinterest, I feel confident Parisians will gladly take that tourist money.

Some interesting side stories: France conducted background checks on everyone coming to the games—volunteers, workers, athletes, government officials—about a million people so far. And they’ve told about 1,000 to go away—they’re not letting them in for suspicious reasons. They believe them to be spies from unfriendly governments, hell-bent on causing trouble. Also, Grindr has been 'blocked' in the Paris Olympic Village. (It’s a gay dating app that had been limited or blocked in previous games for fear of athletes being “outed.”) The 'explore' function on the app has been limited, meaning people won't be able to find any profiles where more than 14,000 athletes will be based. And since s*x is a huge recreational activity in the village among athletes during their down-time, the beds in the Olympic Village are being called “anti-s*x” beds—they’re made of cardboard.

Isn’t it great to learn about your favorite athletes and competitions?

I love the “what ifs” of history… What if we had been prepared for Pearl Harbor? What if Lincoln had lost the 1860 or 1864 elections, or had not been assassinated? What if RFK hadn’t been shot in 1968—would he have become president? What if no troops had been sent to Vietnam, only economic aid? What if passengers had taken out the hijackers on 9/11?

I’ve been reading historical accounts of RFK’s 1968 campaign and untimely end… and the question proposed: what if he hadn’t been killed? Would he have won the presidency in 1968, meaning Vietnam ends in 1969 instead of 1973? No Watergate, no Spiro Agnew resignation in disgrace, maybe no Jimmy Carter… etc. Utopia achieved! It never works out like that. Some of these professorial accounts are embarrassing and silly; they’re so unrealistic.

I am sure my opinion would be unpopular with them. Why? I doubt RFK would have even gotten the Dem nomination, much less won the presidency. The facts at the time clearly suggest that. LBJ hated RFK. Primary elections did not have the control over the nomination that they have today—party bosses made the decisions. (Those rules changed in 1972.) LBJ controlled party bosses. So unhappy that America rejected him, he desperately wanted his VP, Hubert Humphrey, to redeem his policies, and by doing so, redeem his legacy. I believe it was inevitable that Humphrey would get the nod. Maybe RFK would have run in the 1970s and won.

And finally….

Do you have tinnitus? That constant metallic, ringing sound in your ears? I have had it since I was very young. (Yes, a lot of people in radio have versions of hearing issues...an insider note: you wear headphones when the microphone is on, so you can hear yourself and the station programming....the speakers cut off, otherwise you get horrendous feedback. Lot's of peeps in broadcasting, especially music radio, turn that tune waaaay up, hence, that hearing issue.) For some people, tinnitus is a constant, nagging, thorn-in-the-side...but for me, most of the time, I don’t notice it.

I bring this up because I managed to make my tinnitus worse Monday morning. While working on an interview at 4 a.m. (don’t ask,) I wasn’t hearing anything on the speaker, the phone or the headphones...something was technically wrong. When it comes to radio tech...here's what I've learned after decades in the industry... if it doesn't work...call the guy to come fix it.

But it was 4am....so, I'll just handle it myself. I diagnosed the problem as being the headphones were turned down too far.

So, I turned them up.

A loud, screeching feedback which could cause paint to instantly dry, made me jump out of the chair and throw the headphones off in ear-pain, but it was too late.

My left ear was ruined. Everything suddenly sounded muffled and torn, like a speaker that had been badly damaged. There was a buzzing sound when I spoke, and I’ll be honest—it scared me that I had permanent damage. Several hours later now, it’s better, but the tinnitus ringing sound is stronger.

Next time, I'll call the guy.

On the bright side, I now know what the world sounds like to members of The Who.

Ernie here….under the cloudy skies…in the mindfield….

Biden out, Kamala in? Kamala? The candidate who didn’t even make it to the Iowa caucuses? The candidate who called Joe Biden a racist on multiple debate stages? The failed candidate who received her appointment because Joe Biden was cornered into saying he would only look at a minority woman for VP? An amateur move on his part…and we’re stuck with someone who is desperately unaccomplished.

And where is Joe lately? I know he’s been sick with covid…they tell us… (but they’ve also told us he’s sharp and vibrant, too…so….). I would have thought something like this would have merited a televised announcement at the time of the decision.

But, LBJ, the last sitting president to choose not to run, didn’t decide until he was on the air, giving his Vietnam speech. He had his aides put his announcement on the teleprompter tape…(which you can see at the LBJ library in Austin…a really interesting place to spend a few hours,) telling them he hadn’t made up his mind….and did so on the air when it scrolled in front of him. History is sometimes made in the moment, I guess.

Anyway, with Joe out, I was hoping to see a mad scramble for the top spot, we may still see that, but it’s looking less likely as Dems settle on the definition of mediocrity for their “leader.” I’m not sure what she has to run on in the way of a record, it actually makes me sad to see such a lack of substance at the top.… But, it’s not my party and I’ll cry if I want to.

And Repubs…don’t get too high and mighty. The Dems were demoralized with Biden, they knew they would lose. A new, warm, carbon-based-lifeform would do better…they have that now…and they are reinvigorated. They will be coming to the polls to the man, to vote against Trump. It doesn’t matter if Kamala is unqualified. What matters is they hate. HATE. Trump. That’s how they won last time…NOBODY wanted Joe Biden…but they REALLY didn’t want Trump. And with Dems in the “all hands on deck” mode, it’s going to be imperative for Reps to show up at the polls. Even for Ted Cruz, his race seems to be close with Collin Allred…and, as I mentioned multiple times in the last year…the pro-abortion-types will play a role for the Dems.

Disturbing testimony from the chief of the Secret Service. They knew 18 minutes before the attempted assassination of Trump that the shooter was up there on the slanted roof. She doubled-down on the reason no one was on the roof, to begin with. Her answers were described, even by the NBC reporters as “vague and non-responsive.” Watching what’s happened to the justice department, and our justice system in general … well… I guess there is no Santa Claus. Just when you thought maybe, just maybe, there ONE thing we-as-a-people can depend on to be non-political…we find out, no…in fact, there isn’t. The individuals at the top of these organizations, from the AG on down…need to be replaced with professionals. I’m sure most of the rank-and-file do the best that can be done…but mediocre leadership can tear an organization down quicker that almost anything else. (See Dallas Cowboys for reference.)

Twisters (plural) is raking in some big money at movie theaters…and I have read, (I haven’t seen it yet, but will soon,) it doesn’t mention “climate change!” I know, I’m in shock as well…the director, when confronted with that fact by some jackwagon reporter, said, “not everything is about politics.” I don’t know who this guy is, but give him control of a studio, immediately.

When Twister (singular) came out in 1996, it pulled in close to half a billion dollars. With some of the most gawd-awful dialogue and insanely silly plot lines you’ll ever see…it’s still one of my faves, a “turn your brain off and relax” kind of movie. (And FYI…I’m convinced, Aunt Meg had bodies in her crawl space. She seemed sketchy to me.)
