I wanted to start a recipe sharing group on Facebook for pancreatic or related cancer patients/individuals (or if you know of one that already exists, please let me know).
I cannot eat food that must be digested so I have an inserted feeding tube directly into my stomach bypassing the pancreas. The carton of nutrients (a gluten free nutrition based supplement) is connected through the feeding tube and provides my body with the needed vitamins and nutrients needed 24 hours a day.
Some disadvantages of utilizing this feeding tube solution is having something that I “can’t” taste coming into my body. Another one is that it has a large glucose content, which results in my blood sugar levels skyrocketing out of control. Some of my glucose levels soared above 450. My personal disadvantage is that I began to have a nauseous resistance to the feeding tube contents. Meaning, after 8 hours, I begin to smell the contents and it became nauseating. So I knew I had to find another solution to use with the contents of the feeding tube or separate from the tube.
I’ve found some advantages of using a NutriBullet or an equivalent blender to create meals that I can consume daily.
With some friends support, I’ve developed some fruit based meals and/or drink snacks that are so delicious and blended well which doesn’t require the digestion process through my pancreas or use of the feeding tube.
I’ve also uncovered certain bean, rice and oatmeal blends using beef, chicken, shrimp and beef broths to enhance the flavor of blended meals. I’m still in discovery mode on some warm or hot meals. I’ve found that coconut water, various natural fruit juices and rice, soy and almond milk blends add a variety of ways to experience new delicious meals.
I will start a new Facebook Meals page where I’ll add new recipes each week. I’ll also open it up for anyone to share their own recipes that can lead to a much needed forum for situations similar to my own.
Let me know if you’d like to be a part of this new page, and I’ll include you.
